COMICS: ASTONISHING X-MEN #51 Promises "Something That Has Never Been Seen Inside The Pages Of A Marvel Comic"

The upcoming "Wedding issue" of Astonishing X-Men just got that bit more interesting. Check out Marvel's most recent shipping update to retailers..

Although it hasn't yet been officially confirmed, the upcoming X-wedding is expected to be Northstar getting hitched to his boyfriend. But the following shipping update (thanks to Newsarama) suggest that it might be quite a bit more than that..

ASTONISHING X-MEN #51 will have everyone inside and outside of the industry talking. Marvel has secured mainstream coverage both on-air and in print, for something that has never been seen inside the pages of a Marvel comic. Not only that, but some retailers are already saving the date and are hosting special wedding events in their stores.

Retailers who exceed 300% of their orders of ASTONISHING X-MEN #49 with their orders by FOC for ASTONISHING X-MEN #51 can order as many copies as they wish of the ASTONISHING X-MEN 51 CREATE YOUR OWN WEDDING VARIANT. Note: details on this variant will be revealed in the coming weeks and is NOT similar to the customized Comic Shop Variants, most recently offered on Spider-Men #1.

Certainly seems as if Marvel intend to make quite a big deal of this upcoming wedding. Now assuming it is Northstar and his fella tying the knot, a same sex marriage is technically something that we haven't seen in a Marvel comic (although Archie did beat them to it!), but this sounds like it won't just be the nuptials that people will be talking about. More info as we have it.

There's really no problem with this at all.
It's two people
in love
getting married.
It happens every day, regardless of gender/gender.
Also, they're fictional characters. It isn't a big deal.

I'll tell you all right now I'm gay and I don't give a damn what you think. Do you asses think gays don't read comics? By all means don't read the issue. And keep your nasty narrow-minded comments elsewhere! There are so many homophobes on this site. It's disgusting!

Folks who get some kinda thrill out of discriminating against other folks are just goofy. Haven't they figured it out yet that THEY will be discriminated against at some point in their silly-bird lives??

If you're an actual human being and you actually LIVE in this country, at some point either you, your best friend, a relative, or a neighbor is gonna have some kind of socially challenging circumstance set upon them.

Quit being stupid and just try to have fun with your own life.

@ Xenix,

Exactly.

I really wonder why would anyone have a problem with two consenting adult persons getting married.

Just because your religious holy book says it's wrong? Not everyone in this country follows the same religion and there is something called separation of church and state anyway.

And the retarded "reasons" the haters come up with are just demented. For example:

"If gay people can get marriage, what about pedophiles or people that have sex with animals?"

Dude, what part of "consenting adult people" you don't get? Children and animals don't have the capability to consent.

"Marriage is about procreation, gay couples can't have children"

Ok, so I guess you want to prohibit infertile people or old people from getting married also, right?

"Children raised by gay couples will come out gay too"

That's complete BS. There's lots of people out there that where raised by gay parents and they are completely normal.

Gay marriage doesn't hurt ANYONE. It will not destroy civilization or traditional marriages. People will not suddenly become more perverted or anything like that.

Please forgive me. I---I'm sorry to confess- and I hope I have ALL of your support and UNDERSTANDING ...but I have to confess that I'm----I've been diagnosed with the disease 'Homophobia'. At the moment there's no 'silver bullet' cure, b--but I AM in therapy- have been since high school- and I'm doing much better now.

I no longer bust into violent rage when I see a fa..., I--mean sexually confus...sorry, I need to get this right--HOMOSEXUAL, anymore. I'm actually able to smile and say "hello, how are you"(even though I don't mean it) when I encounter-- ehem, a HOMOSEXUAL.
So I'm making progress.

Just as homosexuality is a 'genetic' occurrence , my condition too is genetic.
My granpappy had it...and now alas I've been burdened with this flaw in my genome as well.
But thanks to modern science , I can now deal with my 'illness' , much the way homosexuals deal with their genetic pre-disposition.
Thank you for your love and understanding.

Mazel tov!

It's nice to see social progression and equality reflected in the comic culture, even when it's clearly not present in the community itself.

It makes the media all that more enriched, in my opinion.

@ djwood

Thanks.

The funny thing is that I am not gay myself and I think that marriage, no matter what sexuality is involved, is just traditional cultural bs with dumb religious connotations.

But, I also believe in fairness for all, so if two gay people want to put themselves through marriage hell, they should have the right to do so.

I'm a grown man. Married with 3 kids. Was raised by my dad and his boyfriend. I'm straight and a well rounded human being. They taught me to respect other people. Some of you morons on here obviously haven't been taught that. So it looks like your straight parents failed you. My dad also taught me to love comics. He's gonna love this issue. Anyway everyone's about 25% gay. My 25% a lesbian.

i'm gonna give this issue a miss because i only read the following x-titles.

-uncanny x-men
-wolverine & the x-men
-uncanny x-force
-x-men
-wolverine
-deadpool

i don't mind seeing lesbian's but i don't like seeing men kiss, what you do behind closed doors is down to you i just don't want to see it.

BTW, how'd you like UXF # 23?
And how about Fantomex getting his face cut off! Damn!
GrayMatter
GrayMatter - 4/7/2012, 1:57 PM
Man, whenever this issue comes up anywhere I find the whole thing to be a real downer. Not so much the actual gay wedding, I couldn't care less about that one way or the other. But people's responses, man...

You always get morons who don't actually know anything about anything going off on some homophobic rant, which gives a bad name to religious people who aren't, you know, stupid. And then you get the people (who may just be responding to aforementioned morons), who spew equal amounts of vitriol and hatred towards religion and religious people. And they think that's ok, just because the discrimination went the other way for so long. It's depressing.

I'm just happy there's tea and his never-ending supply of boobs to make light of any situation.

issue 23 sounds intresting,i'll have to see if his got 22 & 23 yet.

definetly the best comic book out at the moment.

-the punisher
-the incredible hulk
-new avengers
-uncanny x-men
-wolverine & the x-men
-captain america

Frankly I'm just sick of everyone trying to "outgay" the next guy. Marvel is way over the top on this last year or so. "Oh look at us, we're gayer than any other comic book publisher". Enough already.
headlopper
headlopper - 4/7/2012, 2:17 PM
@GrayMatter- Good points...all around.
The Bible teaches not to judge...simple as that.
It also teaches homosexuality is sin, and that's indisputable because it's literal scripture.

However ,to pass judgement is worse than the actual sin itself.

I whole-heartily agree with @Marvel72, just keep it private and don't shove it in people's faces to prove your point.
I'm not gonna make out with my girl and grope her boobs in front of a gay person to prove MY point, ya know? Just be civil and socially respectful, that's all. It works out best for everyone.

Boobs... (sorry Tea, I know you're the master, but please afford me one for the healing process!)
