COMICS: Marvel Announces New SQUADRON SUPREME Ongoing Series
The Avengers won't be the only Marvel super-team to get an overhaul in the aftermath of Secret Wars, as we'll also be introduced to a new incarnation of Squadron Supreme (remember them?) from writer James Robinson and artist Leonard Kirk. Click on for more...
The original Squadron Supreme were basically Marvel's version of DC's JLA. The team-members were from the parallel Earth-712, and the roster was made up of Hyperion, Nighthawk, Dr Spectrum, Amphibian, Power Princess, Whizzer and Skrullian Skymaster. At least some of those guys - or rather, versions of some of those guys - will be back for this new ongoing series from James Robinson.
These characters will all be pulled from the various worlds destroyed as a result of Battleworld, so we'll see: Great Society's Doctor Spectrum, the Nighthawk from Supreme Power, Blur from the New Universe's DP 7, and the Hyperion featured in Jonathan Hickman's Avengers run.
Below you can check out the cover to Squadron Supreme #1 by Alex Ross, and find out what Robinson has to say about the characters.
"In terms of the characters, their attitude is that they’ve all lost their own worlds and they’ve got to save this world no matter what. So at times that will put them often at odds with the Avengers. They aren’t always going to [do] the thing that you think is the right thing. And that quite frankly as the series goes on will lead to some of them questioning if they’re doing things the right way and others steadfastly believing that they are and that will lead to inner conflicts and everything else. The only ‘A’ in the title is in the word ‘squad’ but it’s an Avengers book that doesn’t have the Avengers as prominently in it so as a result I’m definitely making a point of making this a vital book that fits within the Avengers family and the Marvel Universe so I think that people might be surprised by that—that it isn’t one of those off the sideline ancillary books but it’s definitely a book in the heart of the Avengers universe."
