Fans were surprised and shocked at the news of adult Jean Grey’s return to the Marvel Universe in the upcoming Phoenix Resurrection but that looks set to be only be the beginning of exciting new adventures of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters. Marvel has announced that Jean’s story continues with X-Men Red, a new series from writer Tom Taylor and with art by Mahmud Asrar.

Featuring new uniforms, a new team headquarters, and exciting new characters, X-Men Red is described as the series X-fans have been waiting for. "Tom has captured the spirit of a quintessential X-Men book," said series editor Mark Paniccia in a press release. "It’s got dynamic hero moments, great character interactions, and a surprise villain at the end. Mahmud is doing some of the best work of his career, going into this fully charged and designing cool new costumes for our team."

The series launches next February and you can get a first look at Jean's updated costume below. It's definitely a departure from previous versions of the character and one which points to her wielding the full power of the Phoenix Force. What do you think of Jean's new look in the Marvel Universe?

I dont like the shoulder pads. What is this? The 80s? I mean the rest is fine I guess, I just wish they didnt try to make new outfits for characters. I mean the original costumes were great! If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

@MutantEquality - marvel will simply avoid it.From what i remember they didn't even show what happened with his real body.Emma never buried him,did she?just like that.

@AHRNihal - they didn't show the body in the casket but they had a funeral. Piss poor amount of people showed up to. It should have been every mutant ever, hero and villian showing up to pay respect. I guess when you know they will back you can skimp on the funeral part

On a some what related topic.

While I'm against the Disney buying Fox deal (both because I'm against the monopoly and like the Fox films) with Angela Bassett and Lupita already cast in the MCU.

The only other logical choice to play Storm mistress of the elements is RuPaul!
