COMICS: Wolverine To Finally Return From The Dead As Marvel Looks To Bring Back A-List Writers

In recent years, Marvel has haemorrhaged A-List talents like Ed Brubaker, Rick Remender, & Kieron Gillen, but they're now hoping to change that! We also have an unexpected update about Wolverine's future.

In recent years, top-tier writers from both Marvel and DC have jumped ship to Image Comics or similar publishers to work on creator-owned content, and that's left the former in something of a dilemma. Whereas DC has held on to plenty of big names, Marvel has lost the likes of Mark Millar, Jonathan Hickman, Matt Fraction, Rick Remember, Warren Ellis, and more, but that could now change.

According to Bleeding Cool, Marvel has acknowledged the fact that readers are gravitating towards certain names (hence why Image is doing so well these days, and they're now planning a change.

The site says that they're, "Taking time to line up big-name talent, new and old, across the board for a series of big name titles in 2018, to be created well in advance to avoid the shipping issues that can often affect such in-demand creators." That's exciting news, but buried in another report, it's mentioned that, "as part of Marvel’s meat-and-potatoes in the comics, you’ll be getting Wolverine back too." For comic scoops, Bleeding Cool is reliable, so these comments are worth your attention.

Wolverine's return is arguably long overdue. Right now, X-23 is filling in for him while Old Man Logan has inexplicably taken his place without anyone seeming to care or notice. How and when he'll return remains to be seen, but this links up to what we heard yesterday about a new Marvel in 2018

I'm not sure about this. It seems like everybody is pretty happy with Old Man Logan being the main Logan for the time being. Seems like they could wait a lot longer before they inevitably bring the original back. But hey, to me Wolverine hasn't been the same since Claremont left anyway (the first time).

@TheManWithoutFear - I really loved OML and still do but I would like to see a satisfying tied up end. I want a Wolverine comic of his earlier years leading up to his joining the Xmen.

A great series would be the three minute montage in the beginning of Origins with Logan and Creed fighting in all the various wars.

@TheManWithoutFear - I hope they fix the writing at Marvel and make it worth while again. Change for the sake of change does not make great stories. And the lineup changes and the general mess at Marvel has been going on for far too long. They could use someone with a vision for the next 5 years to guide them. We'll see if this is true.

I hope they leave Wolverine dead for awhile. First, if you're going to kill a major character and fam-favorite, it should last for a while. His absence should be noticable and felt for a long time, so that when he does miraculously return, there is some weight to the occasion. Logan not being around can actually help the stories, as it can challange the writers to mot just rely on fan loyalties to sell books. And when enough time has passed, bring him back. Don't do it to see books when you are in a slump.

@TheManWithoutFear - Wolverine hasn't been the same since Magneto tore the adamantium out of him and he went feral. Even when they gave him his adamantium back he has just been crappy.

I know those are all just writer choices, but Wolvie suffered from one big thing: He's a very violent character that got too popular, so they had to make him more kid friendly so they could stuff him into every book under the sun and then made him damn near invincible.

I miss the Claremont days too though. I remember the days when it took a while for him to heal. When he could be taken down by poisoned shurikens. Not this newer crap where he can burned all the way down to nothing but his skeleton and be healed enough to fight 5 minutes later.

@CaptDeadpool - Wolverine Origins did that. The series. Not the actual Origin mini-series.

@CorndogBurglar - I was wondering if that period has been covered. I read the mini series but that's it. I gotta check those out, thanks. You remember who worked on those?
