Dear Marvel fan,
You are wondering why I am addressing you in such a precise manner, you are wondering why
YOU and not a
Marvel comics fan or a
Marvel/Fox fan or a
Marvel/Netflix (
still part of the MCU) fan right?
Well I will tell you surely since I brought it up, because you spend your entire day liking and gushing over all your Marvel/Disney movies and bashing other studios for not doing things your way. You have achieved being the underdog in the game pre Iron Man (08) days to watching a Civil War movie almost based entirely on the comic book arc.
You are now the pop culture golden child and you take pleasure in making other fans of less popular movies feel bad because of critic opinions, box office results and overall success in one area or another. Well good for you, slow clap is being heard in the back of my mind right now! Hooray, great now Disney will cut you a check for 100 000 USD for being a loyal die hard and pin you with a Captain America badge, Civil War and all.
Well don’t get me wrong, I kind of understand your need to brag, to be smiling when some other movies fail in one aspect or another, but what I don’t understand is your wish to pretend that you are a true comic book fan, if that was true – you would enjoy all of them and you clearly don’t.
Secretly you are one of those little haters that go to their IMDB page 1
st day BVS is out without even seeing it and slapped it with that 1 score just because its
DC/Warner’s, you know you did it – you will simply not admit it in public. You check Rotten Tomatoes secretly and when Batman V Superman falls 1 % below you rejoice, but you don’t take under consideration that once the general audience says [frick] off comic-book movies suck, they will neither care if Marvel or DC. They don’t know what DC is or what Marvel is. They only know that such and such actor is staring in this movie and that it’s directed by the guy that did that scary movie. General audience goes to movies period, they like to have variety and a choice, soon when any other major blockbusters disappear from the summer releases, they will start wondering why and someday the light will go on. By the year 2025 we would have probably seen most of the major comic book novel material translated on the big screen from DC, Marvel and any other indie company. The reason why Fast 7 and Jurassic World made those numbers is that GA
*(general audience) has had its time with CBM and they need something else by now.
I have been seeing a lot comic book related media post memes and ideas that wants to join all different studios/companies under the same umbrella of fandom. Still when you go to the comment section you will clearly see that is not happening anytime soon. We still have DC fanboys and Marvel fanboys as we have Lakers fans and Knicks fans or any team for that matter. Make no mistake, most of your reasoning to hate DC is simply internet memes turned into your opinion. Some of your points may be valid and most of them are bias as f@ck. You bash DC for certain aspects of Batman V Superman or Man of Steel, but the same aspects were introduced a long time in the MCU and you cheer them and support them, what does that say about you as a person?
You say
Batman v Superman is dark, then you go to a
DareDevil article and praise it, you say Batman is a killer and then you wear your Punisher t -shirt to church, you say Superman killed a lot of innocent people in Man of Steel but you ignore the events in Age Of Ultron because that is what suits your argument best when you try to pick a fight with some random DC fan on the internet. You say
DC makes bad movies, and they have made bad movies, but if you really dig into the shared universe model and think about it, you will realize that
DCEU is currently an infant at its 2
nd movie. Now let me take you back to 2008,
YOU released 2 movies that combined grossed 848 Million worldwide. This is something that DC will make of Batman V Superman alone at worst. You will now bring in the
“but they are the most popular heroes they should have made 2 billion or something” – well that is not really so anymore, the dominant force in 2016 is
Disney.
But what do you mean weird user? You goddamn know what the hell I mean, Star Wars New Hope 2, Jungle Book movies, all those fun
Marvel movies and god know what other big fun franchises they bought. So don’t tell me that Superman is this proven franchise in movies after flops like Superman Returns, Superman 4 and Superman 3 – those 3 bad movies in a row. Nope not a proven property in 2016. Yes Batman is great he had 5 great movies alone, but he is so used to being alone now that when you put him with Superman it’s a mess. We hope DC figure it out before JLA part 1, for your sake, I am worried that if JLA flops you can die out of joy.
Disney/Marvel/Mickey injects a lot more humor, daily scenes and easy to approach fun, light characters which is what the non-comic book audience wants. They do not care about Easter eggs, cameos, hidden after credit scenes or if Robin is teased in the movie. They do not care one bit, when I saw
Deadpool, people that hate comic book movies laughed their pants of and enjoyed the movie for the comedy it was. Can you remember the last adult comedy you saw after The Hangover that wasn’t aimed at kids or had Adam Sandler in it? Hell no, neither can I! What happened with really funny comedies,
Yes we had Ted and Hangover, but we used to have so much more fun movies with bad language in the past.
What bugs me about
YOU Marvel fan is that you spat in the face of Fox when they did Fantastic Four and posted memes about giving the rights back to Disney, then after
Deadpool there wasn’t anything else but praise for Fox??? Now if let’s say X Men Apocalypse is not a 1.6 Billion movie, but makes anything between 700 – 900 Million you will crucify it and start all over again with the bashing.
Yes you will, don’t pretend you won’t and look at me funny, we both know you are a hater deep down.
The worst part about you
Marvel fan from the land
Disney is that you think that because The Winter Solider was a good movie, you can defend your bad movies like Iron Man 3 and be convincing because they are part of a franchise now!?
Let me tell you, Batman V Superman might have been an average
Batman movie and a forced Man of Steel sequel, but I would rate it below movies like Hulk and The Incredible Hulk or Iron Man 2 and 3 for a billion dollars. If we were in the business of making comedies then yes all of those movies have humor and all of those movies are funnier, but what are we measuring here exactly?
Are we measuring the ability of Joss Whedon to write punch lines about what language The Avengers use amongst Captain America? Or are we measuring why does Thor a [frick]ing GOD, sound like he is retarded when he goes horse shopping
(I guess that is funny)?
If we are talking about comic book accurate movies,
Doomsday looked a lot more like
Doomsday in the comics than Abomination, Whiplash, Mandarin and the mutated dogs from Hulk (Ang Lee version).
BE HONEST YOUR VILLAINS ARE TERRIBLE AND YOU KNOW IT!
So let’s say Marvel continues to make money but DC manages to catch up with Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman on critical reception and on the money side, box office side.
Suicide Squad looks to be aiming at a billion with the minor Batman cameo and the heavy Joker presence, we already know TDK did a billion with no humor what so ever, so we can imagine if the movie is beloved by general audiences.
Was Batman V Superman the best movie they could have done – hell no! They could have easily cut off Doomsday, tease Wonder Woman and Aquaman, cut the nightmare scene which non-fans didn’t understand and keep it more commercial for all the poser fans and made a more pop movie than what they did. You cannot judge the second
DCEU movie for not being better than your 13
th or 14
th movie in a franchise. Marvel started good with
-
Iron Man (
which did not have the best end or villain), then they took a deep dive with the
-
Incredible Hulk (costs 150 million and made 260 million, minus marketing – it’s a flop),
-
Iron Man 2 relied mostly on RDJR humor, not much for the comic book fans there , did a bit more than Iron Man ’08 money wise (
Whiplash was as Rourke said limited a lot in performance and nothing to do with his origin),
-
Thor was again a semi success than made 450 Million with less than 300 Million in profit and much of the success relied on his goofy non Thor adventures on Earth (the horse joke LMAO),
-
Captain America TFA did less than Thor, which is understood having in mind we cannot make Captain America a joker 24/7 365, he needs to have a lot of supporting characters to do business as his friend Tony Stark.
From what we know so far
Marvel/Disney success came after their
Avengers movie which was number #6 in the MCU line. So it took them 6 movies to get to the bank and the critical response to their first ones was also mixed, not a lot of people enjoyed The Hulk movies (I assume humor settings were at 28 %, right
TARS).
The only thing people enjoyed is Robert Downey JR playing himself as Tony Stark, the others needed a boost from him to get in that funny circle. We have the Thor – Hulk sync which was a hit, we have the Caps, Black Widow and Hawkeye trio which worked fine and the Iron Man – War Machine team that is …..well ok I guess.
Nothing bad about
YOUR success MARVEL FAN, but do not pretend that Iron Man came out and killed the box-office and got all the awards and Marvel was a house hold name in like 2 months after that. It took you an entire phase to see what works in a shared universe and what might need a boost or adjustment. Example is Captain America TFA, his 200 Million Profit (if you remove the marketing cost even less) showed the studio that they need to seek another angle for him. After the success of
The Avengers, you got a Captain America movie that featured The Falcon, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Winter Soldier, S.H.I.E.L.D agents like Carter, HYDRA, Crossbones,
Alexander Pierce (villain), Maria Hill, Dr. Zola – as you can see the list of characters from The Avengers isn’t short at all. Then we have Captain America 3 with a lot more Avengers plus Spiderman and Black Panther – so it’s clear Marvel don’t believe in Cap as a solo property that can do huge box office numbers alone. Iron Man currently is the only “solo” franchise that has grossed over 1 billion and didn’t use 12 characters from the MCU
(Iron Man 3). As you see, it took them 2 phases to deliver a strategy for each property that makes money.
What is the point of that you ask yourself, why is he telling me that?
Well you need to step back and enjoy your MCU movies and not be present on every DC article with your negative comments. Your negativity is boring and it’s very annoying to people that enjoy DC movies and prefer those type of stories.
It’s good that
You make money but I can’t say DC is struggling as you guys try to paint it online, Batman V Superman and Man of Steel so far have grossed 1.455 Billion and Batman V Superman is in theaters from 2.5 weeks (
fyi a movie stays in cinemas for 14 weeks usually).
This could easily hit 900 -1 billion by its end with the release of an R rated cut by Warner’s. If that happens 1
st and 2
nd DCEU movies will have a combined gross of 1.668 add another billion from Suicide Squad and we have 2.668 Billion for 3 movies, which in your case is about 1.45 total. That’s is of course for people that measure success with money, i am not saying you are (................but i know you dooooo).
Despite the mixed reaction to
BVS DOJ, they know what didn’t work for Man of Steel and they are showing signs of improving on Batman V Superman already. By their 6
th movie they will have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn’t based on box office and critic reviews.
So dear Marvel fan (troll or hater), relax and enjoy your MCU movies (
no one is stopping you), we will enjoy the DCEU even if it’s not funny all the time. Stop showing me box office results from your 12
th and 13
th movies in your phase 3 VS DC’s 2
nd attempt, it’s stupid and it only shows that you are scared as [frick] that
DC might start getting good scores on the dumbest site Rotten Tomatoes (a site that has the same score for the greatest movie Shawshank and one average porn related bore - Boogie nights, one of the most forgettable titles I have seen) and you feel threatened.
Get off your high horse and start seeing the big picture, which is Warner’s putting their entire studio on the back of DC and other franchises and when that happens, their time, effort and talent is going all in DC and Lego plus some Harry Potter spin offs.
So mind your business and relax, we are all good with what DC has done and will do, don’t act perfect you fell in phase 1 and in phase 2, we will too but we will learn to pick ourselves up (cheesy but effective line) and make better movies.
Regards and enjoy your fights down below,
