Marvel Comics has launched a new comic series called Squadron Sinisters. This series will be written by Marc Guggenheim and the art will be done by Carlos Pacheco. Who's on the Squadron Sinisters roster? It will consist of Hyperion (the leader), Nighthawk, Whizzer, Doctor Spectrum, and Warrior Woman. In an interview with Marvel, Guggenheim reveals the concept he's running with for the series, "The version of Squadron Sinister I am doing is very, very close to the original version of Squadron Sinister." He then adds, “They started out as, essentially, this JLA analogue to fight the Avengers. So those early stories were the Avengers versus a version of the Justice League that were all villains, which is really cool. So I’m running with that concept." Squadron Sinister #1 will hit the shelves in June! While you wait, check out the first piece of art below!

@TheBritAvenger

They're Marvel's version of the Justice League. Hyperion is Superman, Warrior Woman is WW, Nighthawk is Batman, Whizzer is Flash, and Doctor Spectrum is Green Lantern.

@TheBritAvenger

They are a team from another universe that are pretty much the Justice League but sinister. There is also another version from another reality called the Squadron Supreme and are good guys.

I'd love to write this team. Just because I'd love to make belligerent references to the Justice League. In terms of writing a serious team book, Thunderbolts all the way. They've sucked lately.

Look at this Superman rip off. Marvel didn't even try to be subtle with it.

"The super-being that would become known as Hyperion is a native of Earth-712, who was the last surviving member of a race of Eternals. Although the circumstances are unknown, Hyperion was adopted by the Milton family who raised him as their adopted son Mark Milton. Mark was raised with a strong moral code and eventually became the super-hero named Hyperion, after the Greek Titan. As an adult he moved to the city of Cosmopolis, New Troy and took up a job as a news reporter as well as starting a relationship with fellow reporter Lonni Lattime"

@LastOfKrypton That's the point, dumbass.

If you seriously aren't a troll, then you must be the dumbest poster here.

@Nomis Because they like comicbook movies not comicbooks.

If they do read comics they only read a certain amount of titles.

They don't watch Marvel cartoons.

They are teenagers without any interest or knowledge about things that aren't their era. (The last time a version of Squadron was used was 4 years ago, though a "good" Hyperion has been featured in the Avengers for a couple of years)

What point imbecile? Didn't I just state that he is a Superman rip-off?
Are you one of those people that believe it was a "genius" move to copy the origin of the most recognisable superhero?

When trying to be a wise-ass goes wrong.

@LastOfKrypton It's a satire. A parody.

A ripoff is when someone tries to copy something without readers getting the hint. The intention for a ripoff is for the creator to get away with it like Darkseid Vs Thanos or Doom Patrol Vs The X-Men.

Squadron Supreme/Sinister is trying to be as much the Justice League as it can (powers/origins) without getting sued. It is INTENTIONAL that they are that similar. The writer WANTS you to know that is what he OBVIOUSLY doing.

So you are one of those that believe this was a "genius" move.
This is extremely lazy writing and a slap to the face of Superman, the Justice League and DC. Don't act like Marvel was trying to compliment it's main rival company. Satire has become the new weapon for pseudo-intellectuals and passive aggressive individuals.

They have the JMS version down the opposite side.
I'm loving this.
Secret Wars and Convergence are making for the best summer in comics in a long time.
The only thing that could make it any better is a pair of Rutland Parade-style easter eggs.
This would be a perfect comic to have a sneaky reference to Telos in.

@StopRogerWardel - You forget that some teenagers don't read anymore but like moving colorful pictures with less words.

@LastofKrypton - So your saying it was lazy writing back in the 60's when crossovers were not heard of due to characters being at diferent companies.

If you guys even read these things called "comics" you know both companies do this sort of thing to each other all the time just for fun. Heck in Morrison's/DC's acclaimed Multiversity, he had an Avenger's analogue called the "Retaliators". It's pretty common that both companies have some sort of homage/parody of each other.
TheOverlord
TheOverlord - 3/10/2015, 4:30 PM
At the time Marvel created the Squadron Sinister, they and DC were friendly rivals and artists from both companies had agreed to do "unofficial crossovers." That sort of thing would never fly nowadays, but back in the day it was a much kinder, gentler comic book industry, and there were no rabid Marvel or DC fanboys, just people who read comics.

Anyway, DC's version of the Avengers from the same time period were called the "Champions of Angor."

It would of been too much to take.Marvel Studios gets a fair bit of hate around here from certain members,this would of been the final straw.
