Marvel Comics Announces Return Of Original Captain Marvel's Son In GENIS-VELL: CAPTAIN MARVEL #1

Marvel Comics has announced plans for Genis-Vell: Captain Marvel #1, a series that resurrects Genis-Vell and Rick Jones for a whole new adventure that comes our way from legendary writer Peter David.

Genis-Vell was recently resurrected in "The Last of the Marvels" story arc playing out in the pages of Kelly Thompson's Captain Marvel run. Now, the character will go on to star in an all-new limited series this June written by the creator who helped define him, the legendary Peter David.

Genis-Vell: Captain Marvel will feature artwork by Juanan Ramírez, and the series will see the fan-favourite Captain Marvel reunite with his former partner, Rick Jones, for the first time in decades for an adventure that spans the Marvel cosmos and a mystery involving Death itself.

Both now back in the land of the living, Genis-Vell and Rick Jones are about to come crashing back into each other! Can Rick Jones save Genis - and himself - before they both fade out of existence? Is Rick’s ex-wife, Marlo, the key? We'll get the answers to those questions in this surprising saga that will chart a new course through the Marvel Universe for Genis, Rick, and more.

"I never thought I'd have the opportunity to return to Genis, what with him being dead and all. But apparently death never lasts...which is actually one of the themes of the limited series I came up with," David said. "It's great to be back with Genis, Rick, Marlo and the whole Genis-Vell gang."

Should have called it Captain Mar-Vell

It'd be nice to nod the 1st Captain Marvel's death due to cancer in MoM. In it's day, it was a heavy story. People held it in high regards due to their own loss of a loved one.

wonder if they will ever bring Mar-Vell back, one of the few heroes to die and stay dead

barry Allen, hal jordan, ted kord and kara stayed dead for a while but still eventually came back (although in ted's case he was brought back after reboot not retcons to the established story, same with kara)

the original blue beetle stayed dead ever since the introducton of ted, but him and mar-vel are pretty much it

@dracula - He's popped up in various forms, flashback, ghost, zombie, alt universe, whatever... I would like to see him back permanently, my favourite childhood Marvel super-hero!

I loved Starlin's stuff up to then, but was disappointed by that graphic novel.

Just bring back Mar-Vell and retcon that graphic novel out of existence.

Should have either kept Monica as Marvel or done this from the get-go. The Carol era has been absolutely [frick]ed.

Genis-Vell didn't die. He was erased via meta-commentary during a 4th wall break.

He's Hulklings (does Teddy even still go by that?) Half brother, wonder if that'll have any ramifications as to Teddy's current status. They totally ruined the original Young Avengers line-up.

Mar-Vell died from cancer. I think that's why they never resurrected him. It could be seen as a slap in the face to relatives of cancer victims (or something I dunno?)

@MaximusTheMad - I get that, if it's seen as a more "serious" death than being killed by Doctor Doom's dastardly doomsday device or something... and yet dead is still dead, whatever the cause.
Maybe after 40 years it wouldn't be a slap in the face like if he'd suddenly popped up again in next month's Avengers. He might not have been the most well developed character but there were more stories to be told I'm sure, very nostalgic character for me, though most of the art was slightly disappointing post #35 of the original run.

Waiting patiently for Twitter to lose their mind because, they don’t realise it’s a different character from Carol Danvers Captain Marvel and, changing the sex of a character is pandering.
…. I might be waiting a while
