SHE-HULK: Marvel Comics Takes The Hero Back To Basics For A New Ongoing Series Launching January 2022

She-Hulk has been through a lot in recent years, but Marvel Comics is finally set to take the Avenger back to her roots with a new ongoing comic book series in January from Rainbow Rowell and Rogê Antônio.

Marvel Comics' most sensational powerhouse returns in a new ongoing series next January! Written by acclaimed author Rainbow Rowell (Runaways) with art by Rogê Antônio (X-Men: Red), She-Hulk will see the character embark on a journey that heralds back to her fan-favourite solo adventures of the past while embracing a fresh new future for the character.

Following her transformative time in Jason Aaron’s Avengers series, She-Hulk is eager to put her rage-filled days behind her and return to practising law in defence of the innocent. She’s got a career to rebuild, friends to reconnect with (and maybe represent in a court of law) and enemies to...well, she may not want to connect with them, but they are definitely going to connect with her.

Oh, and when a friend from her past comes knocking with a mystery she can’t resist, she’ll quickly be back to bashing. The last page of this debut issue is reportedly going to send Jen down a road she’s never travelled, one that will shake up her life and possibly the whole Marvel Universe.

"She-Hulk is the best of the best," Rowell said. "She’s smart, she’s funny—and she’s really and truly heroic (all that and she has the best hair in comics). Jen has always been at the top of my Marvel wishlist, and I’m thrilled to be writing her next chapter."

"I’m very excited and feel honoured to be a part of this exciting new phase of She-Hulk," Antônio adds. "Working with Rainbow Rowell has been inspiring and it’s amazing how she lets her passion for the character shine through on every page. I hope the fans have as much fun reading as I’m having illustrating these new adventures."

Two covers for She-Hulk have been released by Adam Hughes and Jen Bartel. Check those out below:

@supermanrex - Well if you like your She-Hulk looking like a man, then read Jason Aaron run on Avengers.

World War She-Hulk.

I don't care if you don't like what I say about his shitty run.

I'm just gonna say it: this suit needs an update. Liked the tank top and cargo pants, so wouldn't mind them sticking to that

so they are ditching her head on hulk's body?

Good, if they want to do something about sexualizing her again at some point, just change her costume. Feminine and sexualized designs are not the same thing
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 10/18/2021, 5:24 PM
@dracula - agreed. There are so many other ways to make her look "sexy" without sexualizing her. Think Scarlet Witch in the MCU is a great example to follow

SerKurtWagner - 10/18/2021, 6:34 PM
@dracula - The issue wasn't as much specifically sexualization but the double standard of how super-strong bodies are portrayed, which is at its most glaring when comparing She-Hulk and Hulk.

@bkmeijer - MCU Scarlet Witch is my favorite MCU design in general, and it’s exactly what you’re saying. Modernized, looks like a legit superhero look, and still maintains a sexy quality without having to go through overt methods. You can tell women, and likely Olsen herself, had input with the design.

Post Civil War II, I thought it would be interesting to have Jen become a more rage filled Hulk like her cousin. But it got tiring. The way she was written, she was dumber than Bruce. I'm glad they're taking her back to her roots.

@4thMaster -I have all their covers pulled for me. I buy all the Jenny Frison covers and 85% of the Bartel. Jenny's Catwoman and Something is Killing The Children covers are my favs. Mercy, The Department of Truth, Unkindness of Ravens, and her Wonder Woman is wicked hot too! I just got 9 9.8 CGC slabs back last friday. 4 are Jenny's SIKTC. I'm selling a few due to buying multiple covers. I'm hoping to get 3 or 4 loaded up tonight. I'm pretty sure I'm only missing 20-30 of her entire cover works. Most are wicked rare. I have around 5 Artist I will buy every work I can get.

People always complain about this change or that and it’s always just like calm down dude. It’s comics, eventually everything returns to some semblance of the status quo.

Dunno what happened to that man, used to be cool in my book, but now his books suck ass.

DTor91
DTor91 - 10/18/2021, 9:58 PM
@0bstreperous - Ah, kind of envious haha! I own a Wonder Woman profile sketch from him. He’s one of my favorites, and one my biggest art influences in general.

But yeah it’s always a treat when he does interiors, and I love looking at his early work. You can see him finding himself there and which influences he’s drawing from before he fully came into his own.
Guy just wrapped up a crazy cover run on Black Widow, while still doing a bunch of other covers, and doing more interiors than he has in quite some years. I do agree that this one is likely something he did in a night and moved on. But even still, the draftsmanship is all there.
