SPOILERS: Jean Grey's Return In PHOENIX RESURRECTION Is Actually The Least Shocking Return
We've known that the original Jean Grey would make her return in Phoenix Resurrection but it turns out that's actually the least shocking comeback in the issue for characters believed to be dead and gone.
In the first issue of Phoenix Resurrection, we learn that Jean Grey is working as a waitress in a small town diner and appears to have no memory of being a mutant or member of the X-Men. Somehow, she's resurrected her entire family but that's not the only return here; one of the customers she serves bears a striking resemblance to her former teammate Banshee and speaks with an Irish accent!
However, the surprises keep on coming as the issue concludes with a knock at the door and a very much alive Scott Summers standing there with a bouquet of flowers! Cyclops was killed off a while ago after being exposed to Terrigen Mist, a story decision which infuriated fans of the beloved character.
Neither Cyclops nor Banshee appear to have any memory of their past lives and it remains to be seen whether they'll stick around or are just psychic illusions. If it's the former, then Marvel has a very real chance to redeem the X-Men after years of controversial creative decisions and the fact that the company has decided to put the characters on the back burner to focus on the Inhumans instead.
