This December, Kang the Conqueror looks set to go on an epic journey across space and time to discover the future of the Marvel Universe in writer Jed MacKay’s Timeless #1.

To celebrate what sounds like a major milestone in Marvel Comics history, Marvel's "Stormbreakers," the next generation of elite comic artists have turned out new covers depicting some of our favourite heroes. Incorporating time imagery in stunning fashion, these pieces are perfect companions to Kang’s venture into the timestream...and drop a lot of hints about what's next.

So, what do these variant covers for Timeless #1 tell us? Well, it looks like Spider-Man 2099 will make his long-awaited return next year, while Maestro is another character from the future who could have a significant impact on the present-day Marvel Universe.

Elsewhere, it's looking like big changes are in store for Namor the Submariner, while Sam Wilson is once again going to suit up as Captain America. Before you start worrying about Steve Rogers, though, it's worth noting that he's wielding a different red, white, and blue shield!

Timeless #1 will arrive in comic book stores on December 29.

That Hulk cover is bananas.

It was such bullshit that they had Sam finally accept that he was Captain America and that he was important to so many people...and then they decided to make him Falcon again.

Bull. Shit.

@Hawkguy - Due to lack of sales, they always go back to the original more popular version of Captain America.

If I said to you to name the aliases of Spider-Man,Hulk,Captain America,Wolverine, Batman or Superman you will always say the original, the more well know, the more popular version of that hero.

@marvel72 - Yeah, they usually return to the status quo. It just didn't make any sense for where they were at in his journey.

Would've been like if Thor became worthy of Mjolnir and then having someone else just pick up the hammer in the next issue.

I found it a very unsatisfying conclusion.

@Hawkguy - maybe realizing that the identity of falcon had its importance too by being the identity he's used for decades beforehand.

@Hawkguy - It was bullshit making him a tokenized Captain America in the first place. Why can't Sam be his own man as Falcon instead of Captain Token?
Hawkguy
Hawkguy - 11/9/2021, 5:18 PM
@MitcHendricks - They were good stories. They even included a lot of people (like you?) in them, shouting that this new Captain America was woke garbage or whatever. It was really interesting to see a hero on the page have to deal with that kind of thing.

Sam Wilson was the most deserving and obvious person to take on the role of Cap in a passing-of-the-torch type story.

Felt earned to me.

@Hawkguy - It was and still is tokenized garbage. Sam deserves to be his own man not to live in the shadow of another.

@MitcHendricks - 🎯 It is always a poc taking the hand me down role of the classic hero. I want to see original heroes brought to the table. In large amounts.

At this point might as well have Bucky, Sam and Steve all be Captain America. We've already got three spider-men with Peter, Ben and Miles, three Ant-Man's, multiple hulks. It doesn't change much at this point if they just all fill the role.

I want to see The Maestro in the MCU. Kang the Conqueror can use the vision of a Gamma Apocalypse with the intention of manipulating people. A man from the future prophesying the Gamma Apocalypse to all the nations of the world.

This can cause a World War Hulk

@Repian - Maestro is my favourite version of The Hulk.

He needs to be on the big screen.

@JFerguson - Well that just blew my mind as to how that would work. A variant? A new character altogether? If he's a variant does that mean the everything from Ang Lee's Hulk movie actually exist in another universe within the Multiverse? There, are you happy, JFerguson?!? Now I have to go clean my mind up as it's splattered all over the place right now. And I have a meeting to get to, damn it! ;)

@dragon316 - if I understand you correctly, then no, the show Loki would still exist if Kang wasn't around. Whatever business Kamg gets up to happens in the future (i.e. it hasn't happened yet)

@dragon316 - Yess they promote heavely a character that is going to become important to live action, like with Carol Danvers all over the place, Kamalah Kahn, Inhumans, the whole 2nd generation Avengers stuff.

The one and only person who should ever take over from Peter is his daughter, May. Not any other spider-person.

Aside from the She-Hulk one, I really like all the covers. Especially the Hulk one is pretty cool.
