ULTIMATE BLACK PANTHER Trailer Introduces A Bold New Take On King T'Challa And His Supporting Cast

Spinning out of Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch's Ultimate Invasion, the dawn of a new Ultimate Universe is upon us. With it comes an all-new Ultimate Black Panther series from the creative minds of Bryan Hill (Blade, Killmonger) and Stefano Caselli (X-Men Red, Avengers).

Hitting stands in February, this bold new take on Black Panther sees the legendary nation of Wakanda still isolated and kept secret from the world at large. When Khonshu and Ra - the force known together as Moon Knight - seek to expand their brutal control of the continent of Africa, Black Panther is forced to take his people out of the shadows for the first time.

In addition to T’Challa, we'll also meet new Ultimate versions of Okoye, Shuri, Killmonger, Storm, and more in this rousing saga of duty, sacrifice, and love. Today, you can get a first look at the cast bracing themselves for war in the all-new Ultimate Black Panther trailer, featuring never-before-seen artwork.

"I was invigorated by this opportunity because in addition to my immense respect for Jonathan Hickman’s detailed storytelling, the idea of shepherding this bold new take on Black Panther in this event gives me a platform to do the kind of broad, epic, storytelling I’ve always wanted to do in comics," Hill said.

"My influences range from the history of Black Panther comics to Ryan Coogler’s incredible work with the recent films, to Frank Herbert’s worldbuilding capacity of Dune," he continued. "This is something people won’t expect, in the best of ways, and full credit to Marvel and editors Wil Moss and Michelle Marchese for bringing this creative possibility to me."

Following next month's Ultimate Spider-ManUltimate Black Panther will be the second launch in Marvel's new Ultimate line that was born out of Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch's Ultimate Invasion series. The saga began with the Maker, one of the last survivors of the old Ultimate Universe, travelling back in time on a parallel Earth to create a world without heroes. He succeeded and ruled this world in secret through various global factions.

Now, he's vanished and a quiet war has broken out across the planet to shape what will happen to his kingdom. Some want to control the world. Some want to free it. After discovering the dark truth, a young Tony Stark embarks on a bold mission to make things right. Meanwhile, Wakanda stirs, pressured by internal and external forces to take its rightful place on the global stage.

Filled with modern takes on classic Marvel ideas and characters, the new Ultimate Universe is ripe for rich storytelling and a perfect evolution of the Ultimate brand.

Sigh. Can we go back to moon knight being a crazy person who's supernatural elements are hinted at just being in his head?

@Origame - I get the preferance but as someone with a keen interesest in actual Ancient mythology and fiction based on it I love the exploration of the Egyption gods through Moon Knight esp as this seems to be a battle for power in Africa between avatars of and the actual various gods of the continent in the new ultimate universe (it may not feature Marc spector at all anyway opting instead for natives of the region).

@Apophis71 - yeah, but why can't it be through a character that was actually designed for that?

@Apophis71 - I like the connection of the Egyptian gods, but I do wonder what an Egyptian god actually is in the Ultimate Universe.
616 is a kind of anything-goes magical reality for the most part and the gods exist in pocket dimensions and owe their existence to the imagination and belief of humans combined with the magical primal properties of the demiurge or something.

I'd like the Ultmate universe explanation to be something more defined, like in Earth X.

@Origame - I've heard that the new Moon Knight is going to be a character called Reese....

A black woman who could possibly be a lesbian.

@ObserverIO - Is better with clarity on if going with the more aliens worshipped by humans verses gods created by belief route both of which can be interesting to explore.

On the topic of which would love to see an animated or live action adaption of Terry Pratchett's Small gods, love that book and never had a chance to see the stage adaption of it.

@marvel72 - Both the avatars for Khonshu and Ra in this looked male (and North African), don't believe all the fake rage bait rumors out there, not good for your mental health.

@Apophis71 - Discworld is a bucket list thing for me. I was a huge fan of his Truckers trilogy when I was a boy and have always meant to get into Discworld. I remember when they were first coming out. Then they kept coming out, lol. I guess they've stopped now he's passed away, so maybe one year I'll pick up the Color of Magic and get on with it.

@ObserverIO - DO NOT start with The Color of Magic... If trying them out go with Mort, Wyrd Sisters, Guards guards or Small Gods then circle back to Color of Magic after a couple of those if you like them.

@Apophis71 - Well Moon Knight Marc Spector dies in the 616 comics universe.

And is being replaced I think it's being covered on CBR.

@Apophis71 - Moon Knight #30 is the issue.

I love the costume and the take on the character, interesting to be meeting the ultimate version of Storm here before the X-Men is released. But if the terrible Ultimate X-Men teaser was a thing to go by, that's a good thing.
Hopefully it's an improvement on how poorly this Universe has started of.

Not a fan of the mask

I like the costume overall, but I'm not feeling the mask. It's too Batman, I'd prefer if they did a full mask.

It's a good design but it'd be 100% better if they closed his cowl/mask instead of keeping it open.

He looks African-American tbh.
Wish they’d make him dark skinned like a mainland/continental African person.
