X-TREME X-MEN Returns Later This Year With Original Creative Team Chris Claremont And Salvador Larroca

Announced just a few hours ago at the San Diego Comic-Con's Retailer Panel, legendary X-Men scribe Chris Claremont will reunite with acclaimed artist Salvador Larroca for a brand-new X-Treme X-Men limited series this November.

The pair's bold work on the original series defined 2000s X-Men, and introduced groundbreaking elements that have impacted the mutant mythos to this day. Now, they’re back with a new saga set during their classic run. The series will take place directly after the final issue of X-Treme X-Men with a story arc that promises to have wide-reaching implications for the mutant heroes.

A powerful psychic attack on Kitty Pryde from her old enemy Ogun brings the X-Treme team back together for a high-stakes mission...but what secret is Ogun hiding, and will even the combined might of Bishop, Sage, Gambit, Rogue, Rachel Summers, Storm, and Wolverine be enough to stop his insidious plan?

"I’m very happy to be teaming up with Chris again to bring back the adventures of the X-Treme X-Men!" Larroca said. "It’s been a long time and I’ve missed this team and this book that I consider a child of mine. I hope fans enjoy what we’re doing with this new run - there’s lots of new histories to tell."

"This is the book that Chris Claremont fans have been waiting for and I’m proud to once again illustrate his awesome plots," the artist concluded. "Let’s make this an instant classic!"

The X-citement starts here, but that’s not all. A Marvel Comics press release says we should be on the lookout for X-Treme Marvel variants, a new cover program celebrating the launch of X-Treme X-Men by taking things "to the X-Treme" with some of our favourite heroes.

Check out the main cover below, and stay tuned for more details before this title launches on November 30.

I know yesterday i said i missed X-Chris and then they announce this but...

I think the last time i enjoyed one of his stories was that Nightcrawler "ongoing" when he comes back to life and everything is so different and unusual for him.

Was actually kinda meta coming from him, which i dug a lot.

Chris Claremont Back on X-Men. Peter David back on Hulk. Now all they need to do is get Walter Simonson back on Thor and it’ll be the 80s all over.

OT: I watched The Gray Man last night. Great movie!!

So is this a multiversal team? because that Wolverine looks a lot like the Ultimate version.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - Although it became more associated with Ultimate and lasted longest there, this was actually his second costume in Ultimate and it came out around the time of X2. With Wolverine being the most popular mutant, Marvel was attempting a more synergetic look across all media, with a design more similar to what the movies were doing. So Wolverine wore this costume in the 616 universe along with Ultimate, and they eventually used this design in X-Men: Evolution as well. So when X-Treme was running at the time, this is what Wolverine was wearing. It wasn’t until Astonishing X-Men where Wolverine was put back in a more traditional superhero costume, and this look became the de facto design for Ultimate.

@dragon316 - I do too. Though growing up in the 90s, I should love the blue and yellow but I’m more partial to the tan/ yellow and brown. Love the current design.

@UGLYsonic - My choice is Ray Nicholson; From what I've seen of him he's got the devilish charm and wildness to pull off playing Logan imo.

Don't they mean "X-treme Mutants" since Marvel agrees X-Men is a sexist and outdated term for todays modern woke audience?

@UGLYsonic - as someone who's considered relatively "woke" (even though I'm not overly keen on the term) even I've gotta admit that the idea of rebranding the X-Men because the name is "sexist" is so [frick]ing stupid and just reeks of virtue signalling. If they do genuinely title the movie "Mutants" for no good reason other than "X-Men is outdated/not inclusive enough" then I genuinely think it might sway me towards skipping the movie.

Having said that, I can't help but feel these reports of a rebrand are false or at least exaggerated, seeing as we've heard nothing official from Marvel themselves, and they're literally in the process of reviving the '90s X-Men animated series as "X-Men '97" and keep using that theme tune to signal mutants within the MCU. Just seems weird to keep leaning into the nostalgia of that series and then discard the name when it comes to the movie, especially when it's such a recognisable brand.

@AC1 - so woMEN don't count? How about this: WOke MEN = 🤔...you do the math.

@UGLYsonic - They haven't agreed on that. And they are keeping the animated series named X-Men. I'm willing to bet the new X-Men movie will not be called the Mutants. That will be a general movie about mutants to help get everyone up to speed on what mutants are and where they've been. It may even be about Xavier starting his school.

But I'm fairly certain once we're past that, the main X-Men movie will keep the name X-Men. If they really thought the name was offensive and not inclusive enough then they would have changed the animated series name too.

@UGLYsonic - "X-Men" 97 was just shown off yesterday. Everything you're saying is speculation until confirmed otherwise. And please phase the word "woke" out of your vocabulary. Y'all have worn that word to the ground and it's lost all meaning
