SPOILERS: Miles Morales' Spider-Man Is Reportedly Getting A New Codename This Year And It'll Make You Cringe
Miles Morales recently dropped the mantle of Spider-Man, so what comes next for the hero? Well, a new report reveals that Marvel is mulling over a new codename and the one revealed may make you cringe.
At the end of Spider-Men II, Miles Morales made the decision to give up the mantle and become his own man and fans of the character are now forced to wait and see what comes next for the young hero who originates from the Ultimate Universe. With Brian Michael Bendis heading to DC, a new creative team will be tacking the wall-crawler at some point in the near future and that may bring big changes.
According to Bleeding Cool, Marvel is looking to rebrand Miles and one of the original planned names was "Spy-D." There's nothing to say that will be the one ultimately chosen by the company but it's not a particularly good choice and is a little cheesy given it's essentially a way of calling Miles "Spidey."
The name Spy-D obviously appears to tease an espionage element to Miles' adventures, something which makes sense given his ability to turn invisible. However, it's hard not to wonder if this is Marvel's (or, more specifically, Isaac Perlmutter's) way of spiting Sony ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, an animated movie which will put the spotlight on Miles Morales this December.
