Will MCU fans see multiple variants of Wolverine in Deadpool 3? Or will the audience simply visit Wolverine at different timepoints, similar to what occurred in Logan?
Speaking to the French news outlet Le Parisien, Hugh Jackman just might have let an important Deadpool 3 tidbit slip prematurely. "Yes, it will even be a dual role. Ryan and I have been friends for twenty years, we have a lot of fun together. We are filming this summer, " said Jackman.
Fans are going wild with speculation that one of these potential variants might actually don the iconic blue and yellow threads of the X-Men's unstoppable berserker.
However, we'll counsel that Jackman's words are far from confirmation and to temper expectations. The Australian actor has played the fan-favorite mutant since 2000 and appeared in 8 X-Men films but has never worn the familiar costume.
Previously, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared his excitement for having Ryan Reynolds and Jackman leading the film. "It’s amazing. And we’ve got Hugh Jackman coming back for our first 'Deadpool' film within the MCU. That’s our first R-rated film. To have Hugh come back is incredible."
Deadpool 3 is expected to begin filming in May 2023. Recently, English actress Emma Corrin (The Crown) joined the cast in an unspecified villainous role. The R-rated film is currently set to be released on November 8, 2024.
Prior to Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, a third installment was in development in November 2016 which would have seen Deadpool leading X-Force. Eventually, X-Force was spun off as a standalone film but those plans all amounted to naught as Disney and Fox meged in 2019.
While unconfirmed, rumors speculate that the film will see Deadpool using Cable's (played by Josh Brolin in Deadpool 2) time-traveling device to visit various realities/timelines in the multi-verse. Such a development would certainly fit the overall narrative of the MCU as it moves further away from The Infinity Saga and dives into The Multiverse Saga.
