Are We Getting Multiple Variants Of Wolverine In DEADPOOL 3?

A new quote from Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman is leading many MCU fans to believe that we'll see multiple variants of the fierce mutant in Deadpool 3.

Will MCU fans see multiple variants of Wolverine in Deadpool 3? Or will the audience simply visit Wolverine at different timepoints, similar to what occurred in Logan

Speaking to the French news outlet Le Parisien, Hugh Jackman just might have let an important Deadpool 3 tidbit slip prematurely.  "Yes, it will even be a dual role. Ryan and I have been friends for twenty years, we have a lot of fun together. We are filming this summer, " said Jackman.

Fans are going wild with speculation that one of these potential variants might actually don the iconic blue and yellow threads of the X-Men's unstoppable berserker.

However, we'll counsel that Jackman's words are far from confirmation and to temper expectations. The Australian actor has played the fan-favorite mutant since 2000 and appeared in 8 X-Men films but has never worn the familiar costume.

Previously, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared his excitement for having Ryan Reynolds and Jackman leading the film.  "It’s amazing. And we’ve got Hugh Jackman coming back for our first 'Deadpool' film within the MCU. That’s our first R-rated film. To have Hugh come back is incredible."

Deadpool 3 is expected to begin filming in May 2023.  Recently,  English actress Emma Corrin (The Crown) joined the cast in an unspecified villainous role.  The R-rated film is currently set to be released on November 8, 2024.

Prior to Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, a third installment was in development in November 2016 which would have seen Deadpool leading X-Force. Eventually, X-Force was spun off as a standalone film but those plans all amounted to naught as Disney and Fox meged in 2019.

While unconfirmed, rumors speculate that the film will see Deadpool using Cable's (played by Josh Brolin in Deadpool 2) time-traveling device to visit various realities/timelines in the multi-verse. Such a development would certainly fit the overall narrative of the MCU as it moves further away from The Infinity Saga and dives into The Multiverse Saga.

Wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. Could see Deadpool visit multiple points in the very muddled FoX-Men timeline and mock it. Or maybe even just drop that it isn't the one timeline.

@bkmeijer1 - it’s a big chance to put that suit on. Everyone is going to want it before he lets the role go.

@thereeljoefish - I certainly want to see Jackman in the yellow and blue. Or the yellow and brown.

Having variants is a perfect way to do so before he leaves the role behind.

@bkmeijer1 - And he does it as a joke to insult Fox but it turns out to have dire consequences as he cause mass incursions creating a clusterf***.

@bkmeijer1 - I'd love to se a comicbook wolvie played by jackman. Short, hairy, classic brown suit.

@bkmeijer1 - It'll be interesting to see how they approach the fact that time travel works completely different in the Fox-Men and MCU universes.

@CorndogBurglar - yeah. Think it's not that difficult to retcon though.

Could just say the future universe morphing into another one is just a visual way of representing it change and not being an actual change.

@CorndogBurglar - I think it depends on the tech you're using. Stark's time machine made sure you returned to your native continuity, but that would require dimension jumping tech. If they didn't have that then the Avengers would have arrived in the future of the timeline they were in. And they would have all been separated in different universes.

So in DOFP, when he returns to the future, it's the changed timeline, but while he is still connected to Kitty, it's the old timeline. I'm thinking both timelines still exist. And the only reason he ended up in the changed timeline was because he went back to the future from the changed past.

@ObserverIO - I was thinking more about Cable in Deadpool 2. He went to the past to change the future in his future they have seemingly mastered time travel. So much so that he had a device to do it whenever he wanted.

You would think he would know that changing the past wouldn't change his future he's from.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 3/1/2023, 6:38 AM
@ObserverIO - But the Avengers did the same thing. They changed the past then went back to their future (present) and nothing changed. They didn't jump back to a changed future. So why would Wolverine?
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 3/1/2023, 10:03 AM
@CorndogBurglar - Well Starks machine was both a time machine and a dimension hopping machine. So they travelled back in time, but then jumped back to their own universe.

But as for Cable, yeah he should probably know that. Especially coming from a future with readily available time travel. Unless they just don't know about alternate timelines or at least have no scientific proof of them. So to Cable changing the past changes the future. But if he had Stark's time machine, he would be able to travel to the original future that he came from.

CorndogBurglar - 3/1/2023, 10:13 AM
@ObserverIO - I suppose they could use that. But even still, what would be the point of going and changing the past if it doesn't change the future? Why would he even bother going back to his own future?

@bkmeijer1 - As long as one of the realities they go to has a Broadway Wolverine scene. Make it even more meta by having them make fun of Joker 2 as a result.

@ObserverIO - I was thinking about that, about back to the future.

Doc's drawing isn't really wrong... If you manage to keep coming back to the same universe.

@santoanderson - either the hugh jackman we get for the majority of the movie will be just hugh jackman, or we will get deadpool and wolverine on a quest to rescue somebody and in the 3rd act it will reveal to be hugh jackman
