When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, Deadpool 3 initially fell by the wayside (along with all of the X-Men and Fantastic Four movies the studio had planned). As a result, many fans believed that would be it for Ryan Reynolds' run as the Merc with the Mouth.
The Deadpool franchise took place squarely in the X-Men Universe and is R-Rated, a label none of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies have come close to since Iron Man was released in 2008. However, unable to ignore the popularity of this iteration of the character and those all-important box office numbers, Marvel Studios is moving forward with Deadpool 3.
Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin were tapped to pen the threequel's screenplay before original scribes, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, boarded the project alongside Free Guy director Shawn Levy. Reynolds will obviously reprise the role of Wade Wilson, but what about the rest of the cast?
Talking at the premiere for Bullet Train (check out the first reviews from critics by clicking here), Domino actor Zazie Beetz was asked if a return to the Deadpool franchise is a possibility.
"I don't know. We'll see," she teases in the video below. "I would love to do more Deadpool, but that's me, so...I can't, yeah, I can't reveal." It feels like Beetz is hiding something, and we'd be shocked if both she and Josh Brolin's Cable aren't pivotal parts of this Marvel Studios threequel.
The latter is a time-traveller, remember, so his tech could quite easily strand Deadpool in the MCU with no way of returning home. That's probably the easiest way of bringing him into this shared world, though we do hope that Domino comes along for the ride given how great Beetz is in the role.
