All signs currently point to Deadpool 3 being a Multiversal adventure that sees Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine take a road trip through realities.
Deadpool 2 perfectly set the stage for that by having Wade Wilson steal Cable's time-travel device, and the events of this threequel could bring the anti-hero into the MCU and help flesh out this ongoing Multiverse Saga. If so, there are heaps of cameos the movie should find a way of including.
As much as we'd have loved to include Reynolds' Green Lantern in this feature, we're instead focusing on heroes and villains from the X-Men Universe and MCU, delving into what they'd bring to the table and how they could be featured in this story.
Some of these names are likely to surprise you, so hit that "Next" button below to find out who we've singled out...
8. Scott Adkins' Weapon XI
Reynolds first played Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but when he was transformed into Weapon XI, Scott Adkins took over. What followed was one of the biggest disservices to a beloved character we've ever seen on screen, and the Merc with the Mouth took his revenge in Deadpool 2.
Despite that, we'd love to see Weapon XI make his return, especially now that Jackman is on hand to also poke fun at this disastrous solo outing for Wolverine. Even when Weapon XI's head was removed, he lived, so give him a shot at revenge...only to finally be put down in a way he can't return from!
7. Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch
Just because Deadpool 3 is going to be an R-Rated comedy doesn't mean Marvel Studios can't take this opportunity to lay the groundwork for future stories. In this instance, it's time to make up for one of the Doctor Strange sequel's missteps by finally bringing Magneto back alongside his daughter, the Scarlet Witch.
She obviously wouldn't be the Earth-616 Wanda, but to not finally explore this father/daughter relationship (even if it's just a moment of exposition meant to better explain the Multiverse) would be a missed opportunity. Heck, this could even be a way to eventually out our Scarlet Witch as a mutant!
6. Josh Brolin's Thanos
So far, there's been no word on plans for Josh Brolin to reprise his role as Cable. Unknowingly, Deadpool 2 set the stage for this Multiversal adventure by having Wade Wilson play around with time enough to bring himself to the attention of the TVA (explaining rumours about an Owen Wilson appearance as Mobius).
With that in mind, it's possible Cable, a time-traveller, will be pruned early on, but he should totally reprise his role as Thanos here as well. There's fun to be had with this, particularly if Wade finds himself running amok with the Infinity Stones in a world where we get to see a very different take on Brolin's iconic villain.
5. Ben Affleck's Daredevil
There have long been rumblings about Ben Affleck reprising his role as Daredevil, but man, convincing him to don this superhero costume again won't be easy. We think Marvel Studios could get it done, though, particularly after the actor showed he was willing to have fun as Batman in The Flash.
If Deadpool 3 really is a send-off for Fox's Marvel Universe, we'd love to see the Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine encounter the Man Without Fear in Hell's Kitchen. Affleck gets to have fun in a guaranteed hit, we see more of Daredevil on screen, and some badass action scenes will hopefully ensue.
4. 2005's Fantastic Four Cast
An appearance from Marvel's First Family has already been rumoured for Deadpool 3, and we'd like to think Marvel Studios will find a way to bring all four of these actors back. Yes, it would be another Reed Richards on our screen before the MCU's Variant is introduced, but it does potentially set up the Council of Reeds!
That aside, Fox spent years mulling over possible plans for an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover movie. To finally make it happen here would be a joy to see, especially if it means getting to watch specific versions of characters we never thought would meet on screen stand side-by-side. It would also mark Chris Evans' MCU return!
3. Tom Holland's Spider-Man
Tom Holland continues to play coy about his future as Spider-Man, but we'd be shocked if a deal hasn't been signed yet. If so, having the wall-crawler finally share the screen with Deadpool and Wolverine should be a priority for this movie...unless that's the plan for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, of course!
We wouldn't want the cameo to lessen the impact of any future plans Marvel Studios might have, but it would be an easy role for Holland. Heck, Spidey wouldn't even need to unmask and could be brought to life solely with visual effects and voiceover. To not find a way to make this happen would be a crying shame
2. As Many X-Men Cast Members As Possible
Kevin Feige started his career working on the X-Men movies so we're not exactly surprised to learn Deadpool 3 will spend a decent amount of time in that universe. With this likely to be their send-off, we'd love Marvel Studios to have the team go out on a high...in comic-accurate costumes, of course!
There are so many actors and characters here who deserved better, it's really quite exciting to think they could be about to get it. We're assuming the First Class cast will be sidelined, as a result, but if there's any way to highlight their place in the Multiverse as well, you won't find us complaining about it.
1. Jonathan Majors' (?) Kang The Conqueror
This is a tricky one, especially given Jonathan Majors' ongoing legal issues. Hopefully, decisions will have been made about his and the villain's future either way by the time Deadpool 3 is nearly done as it would be crazy not to have Kang make his presence felt in some way (even if it's just a post-credits scene).
One popular theory we've grown fond of is that Kang could perhaps destroy the X-Men Universe timeline, stranding Wade and Logan in the MCU. That's a nice way of setting up the next Avengers movies, though the same resolution could perhaps be achieved from an incursion taking place in the threequel instead.
