Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has shared an update on the status of the MCU threequel, and it sounds like the movie's current 2024 release date may be at risk...

Deadpool 3 is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 3, 2024, but it seems the lengthy break in filming caused by the WGA and ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes may have put that release date in jeopardy.

While speaking to The Wrap about his upcoming limited Netflix series, All the Light We Cannot See, Levy revealed that they have now shot and edited half the film and is prepared to resume production as soon as the actors' strike is resolved, but still can't guarantee that the MCU-set threequel will be ready by next May.

“I wish I knew. I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date]," he said when asked for a status update. "I know we were gonna be May 3. Certainly, the actors’ strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”

The filmmaker was also asked about the rumor/speculation that Taylor Swift will appear in the movie as Dazzler, which recently intensified when the pop megastar was spotted at the Kansas City Chiefs versus New York Jets game with Levy, Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine).

“They sure are loud,” Levy said of Swift fans who are hoping to see the singer play the musical mutant hero, neither confirming nor denying her involvement. “I’m going across the board. ‘No comment’ because that’s a double whammy. That’s Taylor-related. And it’s MCU-related. I’m no dummy. You’re going to have to wait and see.”

We were hoping the SAG-AFTRA strike would end shortly after the writers returned to work, but negotiations hit a snag last week, and we're now hearing mid-November at the earliest.

In related news, it looks like we can scratch at least one rumored character appearance off the list.

So far, the only confirmed cameo is Jennifer Garner's Elektra, but if she's involved, you can bet that at least some of the other names we heard will also be showing up.

Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) will all return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown), who is believed to be playing Cassandra Nova, and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession).

Specific lot details remain a mystery for now, but Wade and Wolvie are expected to find themselves (trapped?) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A recent report claimed that Loki's TVA, including Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Miss Minutes, will be involved. We have also been led to believe that Wade's MCU debut will be far more integral to Phase 5 and beyond than we first realized.

The studios are going to [frick] themselves out of a May tentpole hit because of greedy bullshit and bad faith negotiating tactics

@ShellHead - Indeed. But people find a way to fill the void. I have to say that this current generation of consumer is definitely more mentally equipped these days to pick up and move on to something new rather than stick around a greedy capitalist playground. It's why so much companies are failing.

@ShellHead -
They moved Deadpool 3 forward in order to bait people and try and levy some positive information prior to the strikes which they knew were coming. It had zero chance of releasing early, but they knew that having Wolverine in his somewhat comic inspired suit would create positive buzz.

Deadpool 3 was never going to make the release - now it'll go back to November 2024, potentially getting pushed into 2025 if the strike is not over by April.

What’s the rush anyways! They should just move it to October of next year. And push whatever it is they wanna connect with it to a earlier date.

Wait, a scoop was [SHOCKED FACE] ... MADE UP??!?!?!?! Wow. It's almost like we shouldn't put faith on rando with disposables thumbs making unsubstantiated claims. This guy made it up for jokes, pretty much people will make it up for clicks and clout.

What I think is impressive is that half the film is already edited. So there is no excuse for poor VFX and poor editing. Because this delay gave them more time to focus on VFX and whatever cuts and edits they needed to make.

@SonOfAGif - One word; re-shoots.

Well… if Taylor Swift really is in the film, better for Disney to announce it than keeping it a secret. Her fans alone will bring an extra $100 million to the box office.

@XKnight - I would say $250MM from Swift fans. If she's in the film, it's guaranteed $1 billion box office, minimum.

Taylor Swift has been rumor for Dazzler since X-men Apocalypse was shooting.

@TheSuperMex - It seems they’re using people who were rumored and never got the chance a la TatumGambit.

They got lucky with the first one, only saw a some of the second but stopped because it was more cringe then funny. I can't imagine how bad this will be if they have to depend on Hugh Jackman being a terrible Wolverine again

There is no way this is coming out next year. But Taylor Swift as Dazzler is not a bad idea.
At least you used Steven Defendini's Swift Dazzler art and not some BossLogic Schlock.

Deadpool 3 would absolutely have made that may 3rd release date if the actors strike didn't happen.

Re-writes are now allowed and with 50% of the movie finished, it could still make that intended release date if the strike ends this year.

If not, Captain America 4, which is in post-production, will take it's place and it will move to a later date in 2024, probably Cap's july date.
