Marvel Studios recently shifted Deadpool 3 from November 8, 2024 to May 3, 2024, news that was welcomed by fans eager to see the Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine finally cross paths on screen.
A number of MCU movies are already expected to be delayed due to the WGA strike (Thunderbolts, for example), but now SAG-AFTRA is also striking, production on the Deadpool threequel has completely halted. As a result, we're gearing ourselves up for pandemic-style release date delays next year.
According to former The Hollywood Reporter Matt Belloni's Puck newsletter, there's a very good chance Deadpool 3 will be forced to shift from its May 3 release date if the SAG-AFTRA strike lasts for any more than a month.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are both members of the guild, as is pretty much every other single cast member (along with the actors expected to make cameo appearances). With that in mind, we'd expect Deadpool 3 to return to its original November 8 slot.
It's worth noting that many Hollywood insiders believe both strikes will last until the Fall (and possibly into next year) so we're definitely not banking on cameras being able to role on Wade Wilson and Wolverine's MCU debuts as soon as August.
Alongside Reynolds and Jackman, Deadpool franchise vets Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio), and Rob Delaney (Peter) are all also set to return in this threequel.
Emma Corrin has also signed up as a mystery character, while we also recently learned that Matthew Macfadyen will likely play a TVA agent named Paradox in the movie. It's also been confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, and Ben Affleck, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen are among the many names rumoured to appear.
Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
