Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have already promised fans that the upcoming Deadpool 3 will not contradict or discount the events of Logan despite the latter reprising the role of Wolverine after the mutant hero breathed his last in the 2017 movie's final moments, and Jackman has now dropped a few surprisingly revealing hints about how this will be accomplished!
Potential spoilers follow.
While speaking to Radio Andy on SiriusXM, Jackman explained that he was okay with returning to his most famous role because of a "device" that allows them to move "around timelines."
"I just put it aside and I was like, 'No, no I'm done.' And then we made 'Logan' and I was super happy with it. But all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines now we can go back, because, you know, it's science. And so I don't have to screw with the 'Logan' timeline which was important to me, and I think probably to the fans too."
So, it sounds like time-travel will indeed factor into the plot of the Deadpool threequel. This isn't entirely surprising, and may also confirm a recent rumor that Loki's TVA and Mobius (Owen Wilson) will be involved in bringing Wolvie and the Merc With a Mouth to the MCU.
Shawn Levy will direct Deadpool 3, which is scheduled to begin production next summer. The movie is set to hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
