Ryan Reynolds has taken to Twitter to share the first teaser for Deadpool 3, and while it doesn't feature any actual footage from the movie, it does come with a massive announcement!
Hugh Jackman will reprise the role of Logan/Wolverine for the threequel, which is now officially set to hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
Reynolds begins by apologizing for missing D23, but says they've been working very hard on the third film for quite a while. We then see the despondent actor taking a little stroll through the woods and pouring himself a not so little drink. He goes on to acknowledge that The Merc With A Mouth's MCU debut needs to "feel special," before admitting that he wasn't able to come up with anything.
"Well, we did have one idea..."
Director Shawn Levy sent out the following Tweet in response to the news breaking.
We have no idea how Logan will factor into the story, but there's plenty of comic book material to draw inspiration from. Reynolds has previously revealed that his original pitch for a third Deadpool film focused on a road trip with Wade and Wolvie, so perhaps elements of that idea carried over?
Jackman's involvement also raises the question: is his take on Wolverine joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with Deadpool? We can't imagine the actor has committed to more than one additional appearance (he always said Logan would be his swan-song, after all), but who knows?
The introduction of the Multiverse gives Marvel Studios a lot of options, though, and there's always a chance Jackman will simply play a Variant of the fan-favorite mutant.
However Logan ends up being (re)introduced in Deadpool 3, this is a huge development. What do you guys make of the news? Be sure to drop us a comment down below.
