While there's a lot of intrigue surrounding how Deadpool will fit into the MCU, no one has really stopped to ask what it will actually be like when the Merc with the Mouth shares the screen with Wolverine in Deadpool 3.

Their team-ups are always a joy on the page, but we know all too well that what works in the comic books doesn't always translate to live-action. During a recent interview with The Wrap, Ryan Reynolds addressed having the fourth-wall-breaking Wade Wilson cross paths with Hugh Jackman's far more serious Logan.

"I think it’s a tightrope walk," the actor admits. "I mean most of these movies are always a tightrope walk of tone, so in this instance, though, you have a collision of two pretty iconic characters that exist in the Marvel Ancillary Universe [laughs] — we’re in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point."

The "MAU"? That has a ring to it. Reynolds is, of course, jokingly referring to Fox's X-Men Universe, and while Deadpool 3 will begin there, we anticipate it ending with the foul-mouthed mercenary as a permanent part of the MCU.

For Reynolds, though, it's vital to make sure the threequel does both characters justice.

"It’s really kind of finding a way to service both of these characters that feels extraordinarily authentic to each of them," he adds, "and I think these two wrongs actually will make a right in a pretty great way."

Cameras haven't started rolling on the movie yet, but we can't help but think we're in store for something special. Reliable scoopers have claimed Owen Wilson's Mobius will appear, while the cast of 2005's Fantastic Four movie is also expected to show up. Hopefully, that means these two reluctant allies are taking a road trip through the Multiverse!

Wolverine & Deadpool Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on November 8, 2024.

@AmazingFILMporg - I agree. I think this movie will be big
Star power + being in the MCU + being R rated

I think they have a huge potential hit here

@AmazingFILMporg - My only issue will be the overuse of CGI. This is clearly going to be a cosmic movie. This is going to be something that Deadpool has never had before in live action. Given how small his films have been (Despite it having mass explosions) it was still very Earth based. The argument can be said about The Fast and Furious how it went from small scale to touching the entrance of outer space to taking hits from tanks. I just don't want it to dilute from what Deadpool is known for. I want him to really mock the multiverse and comment on how crazy it is and what not.

It's sounding more and more like this film won't be Deadpool featuring Wolverine, and instead it'll be Deadpool AND Wolverine. I really hope they get equal billing in this. I love both of the characters, and actors portraying them, and it would be a real shame if one outshined the other.

Understandably it is Deadpool's film, so if he does get the most screen time it makes sense. But I hope it's split nicely down the middle.

@RedFury - That's been the new Marvel formula since Phase 2/3. Everyone kept asking "But where was Iron Man? Why didn't the Avengers respond to that?" And so on. So Marvel has it where other heroes are there for the journey as well. Since that has been happening the only arguments people have had has been Tiamut. Arishem overlooking the Earth and Tiamut's emergence has gone relatively ignored.

@SonOfAGif - Yeah, well, they've been doing that in the comics forever, so it makes sense. I mean, I LOVES me some Spidey (my favorite hero since day 1), BUT he's just one dude and ofter needs to team up with some other hero(s) which is always fun. And we're all saying (nay, DEMANDING) that "SM 4" be a Spidey/DD team up, so why wouldn't Marvel lean into that these days. They have enough characters now (especially after the slew of new ones introduced in Phase 4 (which I think was part of the point)) that they can literally team anyone up with anyone else (that they've introduced so far), and I'm all for it. And now that they're really starting to establish genres within the MCU (supernatural, mystical, cosmic, street level, etc.) and build those out, the team ups within those genres will be fun, but the real fun to be had will be when they cross genres. Giddy up!

As for Tiamut... dunno. But I'm assuming that Marvel is well aware that it hasn't been addressed and that the fans are aware that it hasn't been addressed, so I'm assuming that they will at some point, probably as a retcon-type of thing where Strange mentions in passing "Of course I cast a spell. How else do you think that no one else on Earth has noticed a giant marble hand sticking out of the ocean?" or something to that effect. Something where we'll all go "Oh, so that's why no one's brought it up". And then the endless fan-boy/girl bickering will ensue 😉.

@ModHaterSLADE - Yeah. Besides never wearing the costume, the biggest "regret" of Jackman's time as the Wolverine is how none of his villains got decent live-action adaptations. Really conflicted on whenever they should bring Schreiber back or not, on the other hand he did give a decent performance and deserves better material, but I just can't visually see him as Sabertooth.

@ModHaterSLADE - I’d love to see Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth again. For sure. The best part of XMOW. Him and the opening montage were the only good parts IMO.

Personally would have preferred getting MCU Wolverine first before seeing Jackman come back.

There's always been the "nobody else can play x character" statements from fans, but I've seen people on a different level of stubborn when it comes to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

I feel like Feige/Marvel are just making it harder on themselves for when they do eventually recast by continuing to remind people of Jackman/the Fox characters.
FilmGuy7878
FilmGuy7878 - 1/12/2023, 12:19 PM
@Kurne - Yeah Feige's putting himself in a corner by bringing back the FoX-Men. All the MCU X-Men will get is constant comparisons and that's not good, it should be a new take on the characters but still keep the elements and charm that make the X-Men who they are and why they have been so impactful on popular culture.

Yeah this one always fries my brains. Nobody can play a short, bulky, brutal looking Canadian in a masked costume like a tall, lean, handsome Australian in a leather jacket?

Go ape-shit with nuts in!

Ryan Reynolds Hannibal King,

The question is:

Who or what is the huge threat that will pull these 2 together?

Needs to be something EPIC, not some throw away villain.

Meybe the pre Secret Wars rebirth of Ultron......

@bkmeijer1 - I just am really holding out hope (pun intended) that this movie can give us the X-Force movie we all deserve. I imagine the MCU mutants would take a long time to get there.

@mountainman - I agree. Just wonder, who'd be on the team though. I assume Deadpool, Wolverine, Domino and Cable, but who else? Psylocke could be fun
mountainman
mountainman - 1/17/2023, 4:47 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Since this movie is likely a one off and the mutants will be getting rebooted in the MCU, you can go whatever direction you want to. Old 90's lineup, newer Wolverine-led lineup.

I think those 4 are a must. Then add a few of the following: Psylocke, fantomex, archangel, warpath, wolfsbane, shattersar, rictor, cannonball, boom-boom, really any of them. Pull actor from another movie or not. It really doesn't matter as the continuity with this one will likely be thrown out.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/17/2023, 5:02 PM
@mountainman - three of those already appeared in Fox movies, so they could have them return.

Doubt it'll happen though, think it will mostly be focused on Wolverine and Deadpool. And maybe Cable and Domino
mountainman
mountainman - 1/17/2023, 6:49 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Oh I know it probably won't be the over-the-top wacky end of the Fox continuity that I'd prefer. I'm just hoping it justifies Jackman returning after the near-perfect sendoff that was Logan.
RolandD
RolandD - 1/12/2023, 12:21 PM
What will make this successfully translate on screen is the relationship between Reynolds and Jackman. As long as the script is good, although I am sure they will do a ton of ad-libs, and the direction is good, I have no worries.

This better be more entertaining thru the multiverse than Dr. Strange 2 not saying it wasn't good just I thought there would be more multiverse cameos.

slickrickdesigns
slickrickdesigns - 1/12/2023, 1:04 PM
@Matador - after rewatching MOM I’ve determined Marvel Studios didn’t want to blow their load on the multiverse and cameos during Loki and Doc Strange 2. It’s clear they starting building towards a number of multiversal movies with more cameos and crazy multiversal shenanigans.
