DEADPOOL 3 Writer Rhett Reese Describes Threequel As A "Fish Out Of Water" Story

In a new interview, Deadpool 3 co-writer Rhett Reese dropped a fairly significant tease for the upcoming threequel, implying that the Merc With a Mouth will be dropped into the middle of the MCU...

We know Deadpool 3 will introduce Ryan Reynolds' Merc With a Mouth to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we're still not sure exactly how it will happen. Given recent developments in the MCU, some kind of Multiversal shenanigans seem likely, but there's also been speculation that the threequel will simply treat the previous movies as canon and pick up where Deadpool 2 left off.

Now, co-writer Rhett Reese has given us a slightly better idea of what to expect.

While chatting to the BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast, Reese confirmed that Wade Wilson will be "dropped" in to the MCU for a "fish-out-of-water" story, which obviously suggests that the character will be transported in from his own reality.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for fish-out-of-water," said Reese. "Deadpool is a lunatic at the center of a movie. To drop a lunatic into a very sane world, it’s straight butter. It’s going to be really fun.”

Though he didn't go into specifics, it certainly sounds like the Multiverse is going to factor into Mr. Pool's Marvel Studios debut. Could we see The Fantastic Four and X-Men find their way to The MCU in similar fashion?

All we really know about Deadpool 3 at this point is that it's going to be directed by Shawn Levy and make full use of an R-rating. In a seperate interview from earlier this month, Reese assured fans that the studio is fully on board with the movie embracing the more adult classification.

“Now when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we’ll hear at some point, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing, because obviously we were doing it separate from them for a long time, and I think they’ve seen the success and they’ve had their own even greater success. So hopefully it’ll be a marriage made in heaven. But we’ve definitely got their support, and that’s a great thing to feel.”

Reese and co-writer Paul Wernick were also asked about the recent Morbius memes, and while they admitted that they weren't familiar with the critically-panned movie, they said they'd now have to find a way to "work a Morbius joke" into Deadpool 3.

The still untitled Deadpool threequel doesn't have a release date yet.

@BO31 - while you are in a way correct, as a DC fan I am jealous of the quality MCU has been able to deliver in contrast to the dumpster fire that is the DCEU, you are a despicable person for attempting to rub people's faces in it and make our disappointment more annoying.

Do note I said attempting. Because in that regard, you have failed. Your only success is in announcing yourself as a juvenile twat who's presence I can now more easily avoid in future articles. You've added no value to anything, you have gained nothing but your own gratification. Much like leaving a comment on a porn video, nobody cares you are getting off.

Seriously!!?? You've never noticed the legion of butthurt idiot clown DC fanboys filling up every thread and website with jealous hate?!

This is in direct response. Im so sick of that jealous army of imbeciles trying to ruin everything. How come you didn't say anything about that. I know you see it. Speak on all of it or STFU.

"Do note I said attempting. Because in that regard, you have failed"

If true, again STFU

@BO31 - Feige already said DP3 is the only MCU property getting an R rating. Blade is going to be pg13.

@GirshwinDavies - I think so too. But Feige also said that outside of Deadpool, he can't think of any other characters that they couldn't tell a story with that isn't PG-13.

So I think everyone needs to just expect all MCU content to be PG-13 at worst, unless they specifically say otherwise.

@McMurdo - He actually hasn't said that Deadpool 3 will be the only MCU property with an R rating. I certainly can't find a quote where he says so no other film of their's will be R rated. Sounds like you're bullshitting.

Just because you can't find the quote doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

It's all from his Television Critics Association tour:

"We haven’t encountered a story or a storyline or a character’s journey that a PG-13, or the tone, or the ratings we’ve been using up to this point has prevented us," he said. Feige did leave the door open for an R-rated feature in the future, adding "there can be a discussion that can be had. But that just hasn’t been the case. We’ve told all the stories that we wanted to with the tonality and the rating we have now.”

Honestly, I like the sound of that. Deadpool’s antics colliding with the straight edge ish MCU is perfect. I haven’t seen the Adam Project so I hope Levy has it in him to make a great movie!

Deadpool 1 is better than 2

I'm excited to see what they do with this film. Even though he will be breaking down 4th walls and what not he technically will be the first on screen mutant in the MCU.

@comicfan100 - i always say the best thing to do would be have him get frustrated that he can’t swear if he shows up in someone else’s movie. Like he tries but a sound goes off or he tries to kill some “henchmen” turns out their robots

I've never been a big fan of the character or the movies, but it'll be interesting to see some R rated meta commentary going on within the MCU if they are ballsy enough.

We will surely see the Wade of the MCU. It would be funny if he is a henchman and seconds after he appears on screen, Deadpool kills him.
