DEADPOOL 3 Writer Rhett Reese Describes Threequel As A "Fish Out Of Water" Story

We know Deadpool 3 will introduce Ryan Reynolds' Merc With a Mouth to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we're still not sure exactly how it will happen. Given recent developments in the MCU, some kind of Multiversal shenanigans seem likely, but there's also been speculation that the threequel will simply treat the previous movies as canon and pick up where Deadpool 2 left off.

Now, co-writer Rhett Reese has given us a slightly better idea of what to expect.

While chatting to the BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast, Reese confirmed that Wade Wilson will be "dropped" in to the MCU for a "fish-out-of-water" story, which obviously suggests that the character will be transported in from his own reality.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for fish-out-of-water," said Reese. "Deadpool is a lunatic at the center of a movie. To drop a lunatic into a very sane world, it’s straight butter. It’s going to be really fun.”

Though he didn't go into specifics, it certainly sounds like the Multiverse is going to factor into Mr. Pool's Marvel Studios debut. Could we see The Fantastic Four and X-Men find their way to The MCU in similar fashion?

All we really know about Deadpool 3 at this point is that it's going to be directed by Shawn Levy and make full use of an R-rating. In a seperate interview from earlier this month, Reese assured fans that the studio is fully on board with the movie embracing the more adult classification.

“Now when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross a line, maybe we’ll hear at some point, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing, because obviously we were doing it separate from them for a long time, and I think they’ve seen the success and they’ve had their own even greater success. So hopefully it’ll be a marriage made in heaven. But we’ve definitely got their support, and that’s a great thing to feel.”

Reese and co-writer Paul Wernick were also asked about the recent Morbius memes, and while they admitted that they weren't familiar with the critically-panned movie, they said they'd now have to find a way to "work a Morbius joke" into Deadpool 3.

The still untitled Deadpool threequel doesn't have a release date yet.
