Disney Has Plans For More DEADPOOL "In The Years Ahead," Assures Chairman Alan Horn

Disney executive Alan Horn has assured Deadpool fans at CinemaCon that the Merc with a Mouth definitely has a future under the House of Mouse. And Ryan Reynolds is seemingly likely to remain on board.

Disney executive Alan Horn assured Deadpool fans at CinemaCon that the Merc with a Mouth will have a future on the big screen while living in the House of Mouse.

"You'll be seeing more of Deadpool in the years ahead," said Horn, the chairman of Walt Disney Studios. His comment essentially echoes that of Disney CEO Bob Iger who also previously confirmed that Deadpool will continue to be his R-rated self.

As reported by Comicbook.com, Horn's comments were made while standing against a backdrop of one of Ryan Reynolds' tweets. When Disney officially took control of Fox's assets, the Deadpool star took to social media to share a photo of himself in costume with Mickey Mouse ears on while on a yellow school bus. One could interpret the backdrop of Horn's comments to mean that Disney plans to keep Ryan Reynolds on board as the titular anti-hero.

The old saying "If it it ain't broke, don't fix it," comes to mind when thinking of Disney and Deadpool joining forces. The first two installments made over $1.5 billion at the box office, so clearly there's incentive in sticking with what works.

It's going to be interesting how they handle him, I'm guessing they keep him in his own separate bubble with a selection of X-Men characters so he can play around with them in the full R-rated setting.

@8thDoctor - I imagine he will occupy a very specific corner of the MCU.

@8thDoctor - Maybe Deadpool is a way to introduce characters like blade, punisher, ghost Rider and other similar characters.

I think he will pop up all over the place. Deadpool is funny without the profanity and R rating.

@Goldboink - I thought the same thing. There are plenty of other versions were he isn't R that he is still funny. Shoot Ryan in the beginning of X-men Wolverine is pretty good.

@8thDoctor - he can go full R in his own movies, but will be bleeped out and covered over with black bars in other's movies... and he will be aware of it and calling it out on screen...
Deadpool - "come on, black bars? that was hardly even offensive except to mister star spangled banner here! Grow a pair Cap!"

I just hate how Deadpool made people remember that Rob Liefeld is alive, but forget he's crap.

@Reeds2Much - lol. Rob Liefield was the worst. Makes trash like Romita Jr look like the Pieta.

@Reeds2Much - @Reeds2Much - If he's crap then how did Major X sell out every printed issue before it hit the stands today? Readers love their Liefeld books. The art reminds us that Xbooks are a freakshow, not a beauty contest.

A #1 of a new character from someone who has been basically invisible for the better part of a decade that most people now only know as "the guy who made Deadpool" and not as "the guy that made Deadpool good". Was that a trick question?

@Reeds2Much - The guy has been working steadily all this time, and his work always sells. I really don't see a problem with his art. It's ugly, but so is the art of Ted McKeever, Sam Kieth, Humberto Ramos, Mark Bagely, Steve Dillon. For me it's about whether it tells a good story or matches the energy. Even Sandman, the most epic comic ever told, has mostly bad art. But it just works because it's full of heart.

Brigade? Bloodstrike? Youngblood? You're kind of ignoring that Liefeld doesn't tell good stories and when he can even be assed to meet a deadline his stories are mostly just the same old cliches from the 80s and straight up expies.

rabid - 4/3/2019, 8:17 PM
@Reeds2Much - Those are all good stories, and Liefeld is famous for being a fast worker. When he was at Marvel, he was handling multiple monthly books at once, writing and drawing on time. That brief era of him lagging on the schedule were when his kids were born, and I can tell you from experience that makes it really tough to get comics made on time.

That "brief era" includes his Kickstarter for Brigade Returns, which began in 2013 and still hasn't shipped.

@Reeds2Much - Liefeld is indeed shit for all the reasons people think he's shit. And it's a real shame that Joe Kelly and Fabian Nicieza aren't getting their due for making Deadpool into something worth a damn.

"It's ugly, but so is the art of... Humberto Ramos... Mark Bagely."

@rabid - Steve Dillon's art is ugly? For shame. I miss his art daily, just simple old school comic book art and it matched perfectly with Ennis' words.

I do feel Bagley is super hit or miss depending on his deadlines, much like Bryan Hitch.

@Reeds2Much - You're right about that. But he gave refunds to everyone who asked, and the first two issues are coming out the next Free Comic Day. I figured its lateness had something to do with Netflix buying the rights. He might be wanting to release it in time with a movie.

@Spock0Clock - I love all the old “bad” 90s comics... my problem with Liefeld is he’s such a surfer-type doofus. I can’t stand listening to him.

That being said I got my copy of Major X reserved lol

@Spock0Clock - Joe Kelly is one of my all time favorite comic writers the Deadpool run was the first real comic run I picked up it was fantastic I even liked his short run on Supergirl (even though everyone else seemed to hate it) and honestly I can't stand most of Deadpools series after Daniel Ways run at all he kinda ruined the character for me made him too much of a joke character

More surprising is that they plugged “The New Mutants” to theater owners at Cinemacon, so apparently they intend to go through with the Aug 2nd theatrical release.

HeavyMetal4Life - 4/3/2019, 6:31 PM
@Chewtoy - I'm guessing they are just going to see what, if any money they can make on this film and not go through with any of the reshoots, which would likely just cause them to lose money. It also will probably be in its own universe kind of film.

Deadpool already has MCU like humor. Just with swearing and the ocassional sex scene.

It will fit right in with the MCU. lol.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 4/3/2019, 6:38 PM
@Comicbookart - yeah it should be pretty easy to incorporate into the MCU. And Deadpool can apologize to Nick Fury or whoever for destroying what was left of that helicarrier model, lol.

Comicbookart
Comicbookart - 4/3/2019, 6:45 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - lol. Deadpool is pure MCU. Right down to actually embracing the comicbook aesthetic and weirdness. It was always basically non-canon to whatever the Fox-men were about.

It's perfect that it's back home with Marvel.
