Fans are still talking about this week's major news that Hugh Jackman is set to reprise the role of Wolverine for Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3, and the actor has now briefly addressed his decision to return as the fan-favorite mutant after previously making it clear that he planned to hang up the claws after James Mangold's Logan.
A fan caught Jackman on camera and asked how Marvel was able to "convince" him to don the muttonchops again. Ever the pro, the actor simply responds that he makes "his own decisions." Is it possible that Jackman was the one to reach out to the studio and/or Ryan Reynolds to see if they'd be interested in a team-up?
It doesn't really matter at this point, because for better or worse, Jackman is returning to his most famous and recognizable role. The Academy Award-nominee has begun training for the shoot (because he looked so out of shape in that announcement teaser), and shared a couple of gym photos to social media.
We have no idea how Logan will factor into the threequel, but there's plenty of comic book material to draw inspiration from. Reynolds has previously revealed that his original pitch for a third Deadpool film prior to the Fox merger focused on a "Rashomon-style" road trip with Wade and Wolvie, so perhaps elements of that idea carried over?
Jackman's involvement also raises the question: is his take on Wolverine joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with Wade Wilson? We can't imagine the actor has committed to more than one additional appearance, but who knows?
There is a rumor doing the rounds that Jackman will don Wolverine's classic yellow costume from the comics, but we wouldn't put too much stock in any supposed "plot leaks" just yet.
