X-Men Star Tyler Mane Shares Positive Update Following Cancer Diagnosis: "I'm On The Road To Recovery!"

A positive update (for once) here, as wrestler-turned-actor Tyler Mane has revealed that he is now approaching the "road to recovery" after recently being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer...

Back in June, Tyler Mane revealed that he had been diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer, and was preparing to begin treatment.

"I have some bad news: I start chemo today," said Mane at the time. "One in 750 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and I’m one of them."

He continued, "I’ll be honest, my first reaction was to keep it secret. I mean it’s kind of embarrassing. But then I found out that men are more likely to be diagnosed in advance stages BECAUSE it’s not talked about and not looked for. In fact, my doctors all dismissed it and it was only because my wife pushed me to get the lump removed that I got in early."

Mane, who started as a professional wrestler before deciding to become an actor, will be best known for playing Sabertooth in the original X-Men movie. Much later, he reprised the role in Deadpool and Wolverine for a brutal (if very brief) scrap with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

Liev Schreiber played a far more talkative take on the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and with Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot on the horizon, Mane's D&W appearance most likely marked his farewell to Victor Creed.

Now, Mane has taken to Instagram to share a positive update following his fourth and final round of chemotherapy.

"Round 4 day 2 chemo and treatments are done! Now I just have to make it through these next few rough days and I’m back on the road to recovery! Next up on the journey is radiation and I’m meeting my doctor this morning to see what that journey is going to bring. Stay strong everyone and I’m excited to see you guys soon!"

Mane still has a long road ahead of him, of course, but his attitude is inspiring, and it's nice to be able to share a somewhat positive update like this for a change.

Mane's other credits include Troy, Jupiter's Legacy, and Doom Patrol. He also played Michael Myers in Rob Zombie's Halloween movies.

“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," reads the synopsis. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”
