We know Deadpool 3 is happening, but a release date has yet to be revealed for the Marvel Studios movie. The Merc with the Mouth is one of hundreds (possibly thousands) of Marvel characters acquired by Disney during the merger with Fox, but Wade Wilson does appear to be a priority.
It's previously been revealed that the R-Rated threequel will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux are penning the screenplay. Doing the rounds to promote Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige opened up on where things currently stand with Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool return.
Asked whether they have a release window in mind for the movie, Feige responded: "We do. The script is in the works and Ryan is working very hard on it with our writers as we speak."
Recently, Reynolds confirmed that he anticipates production beginning next year, so Deadpool 3 could start to take shape fairly soon. It's clear that Marvel Studios has a tentative Phase 5 slate in place, but when that's going to be revealed is hard to say. After all, Phase 4 has only really just begun after what happened in 2020, so it's possible Feige doesn't want to share too much about the future yet.
This is definitely a promising update, though, and it's going to be very interesting to see how the offbeat superhero is incorporated into this shared world (especially when his adventures have been PG-13 until now).
What are you hoping to see from Deadpool 3?
