There's a lot of excitement for Wolverine's MCU debut in Deadpool 3, but star Ryan Reynolds may have actually already revealed what the premise of the movie will be in a Tweet the actor shared last year...

Last night, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman broke the internet with an announcement confirming that the latter will reprise the role of Wolverine in Deadpool 3. The actor was thought to have retired from the role after 2017's Logan, but Marvel Studios was clearly able to convince him to don those claws one final time for the 2024 movie.

We have to assume the threequel will at least begin in Fox's X-Men Universe, likely ending with Wade Wilson in the MCU thanks to all that ongoing Multiversal madness.

Beyond that, we don't really know what to expect. However, before Reynolds was able to convince Jackman to join him in Deadpool 3, he may have revealed what the plan for the clawed mutant and his Merc with the Mouth is. Promoting Bell Let's Talk's mental health awareness campaign last year, the actor shared the movie's plot prior to the Disney/Fox merger.

"It’s critical to have open, honest and healthy discussions around mental health. By retweeting #BellLetsTalk you can make a difference," Reynolds said at the time. "In case that’s not enough, before Disney bought Fox, Deadpool 3 was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real."

Reynolds later made it clear that he wasn't kidding around, and while we have to believe the story has evolved and changed with Marvel Studios in charge, we wouldn't be surprised if the road trip side of things remained. Perhaps it will now just be a road trip through the Multiverse?

If nothing else, Deadpool 3 is surely going to feature some huge cameos both from Fox's X-Men Universe and the MCU. Fans are already hoping that the plan is for Jackman to return as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars, but if this is it for him, we couldn't be happier that it involves the team-up fans have been dreaming about for years now.

Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.

Just put him in the suit at least once.

Didn't really like DP2 so I'm giving this the cut eye for now

@ClungesForever - They could do more than that! They could flashback to his first appearance fighting Mark Ruffalo in Savage Hulk mode! They have all the characters! They can do anything!

Please just reboot these two, or at least just give me a decent wolverine that resembles the character from my favorite comics

The most hype I ever had for a Wolverine movie, was the after credits of The Wolverine, that suit case with the holy grail was teased... MAKE IT HAPPEN

So y'all think this will be THE Wolverine from the Fox-Men movies, or a variant? I'm leaning towards variant, but who knows?

Not sure if I am hyped for this. Logan was a perfect send-off for Wolverine and Reynolds also becomes more and more annoying. It feels like all his movies and his public appearance is one big, never ending Deadpool movie.

@Spawnnn - the movie will always be there, as Mangold himself said

So here's the deal: when Kang started to mess with the timelines and multiverse, it basically started a countdown for the fox-verse. Deadpool chooses not to die, he grabs his bestest friend in the world and they go on a multiverse trip with member berries and Easter eggs galore.

Or: Deadpool uses the multiverse to save Logan before dying (hence the mini Logan statue) and takes him on a trip to alternate realities ala bucket list kind of shit.

It has to be one of those, that's like bare minimum for this story lol.

@bobevanz - first one. Let Logan be sacred.

But I am down for a multiverse road trip with fan service up in every orifice.

I actually wish Hugh wasn't coming back. Feige/Marvel are basically making it harder on themselves to win people over with their own MCU Wolverine when the time comes. Everyone's gonna be in an extended honeymoon phase with Hugh back in the role (again).

Like seriously. By 2024 it would have already been 7 years since Hugh Jackman's run ended with Logan. Plenty of time would have passed for them to comfortably recast, and for fans to have moved on.

Instead, they're bringing him back fresh into people's minds. IMO not the best move.

@Kurne - I kinda agree with you here, like "hey here's your favourite back but don't get too used to him as the new guys coming in"

Not sure Jackman's inclusion is wise but to see him alongside Deadpool is gonna be exciting.

Wonder if Deadpool enters the MCU turns to Hugh and goes "WHAT!?!?!" and there's Taron Egerton taken over the role?

Deadpool kills the Marvel Cinematic Universe/Multiverse?

I feel like Hugh won't be the only Wolverine in this movie. Whoever will be the MCU's Wolverine will also either be a major player or a cameo for Hugh to pass the torch to at the end. But I doubt the former. Wouldn't want to take too much of the spotlight from Hugh.

After Free Guy, I can't help but half want a Chris Evans cameo in this. I'm not expecting to see him as Cap again any time soon, but I also wasn't expecting to see Jackman as Wolverine again, so there's that.

Kinda wish this was a Deadpool and Hugh Jackman roadtrip movie, but I'll take a Deadpool and Wolverine (and X-Force) roadtrip movie too. Maybe even a roadtrip through the multiverse, ending with Deadpool in the MCU

Reynolds didn't reveal shit lol literally says the idea was BEFORE Disney bought Fox. Also, Josh, using the phrase 'broke the internet' is just terrible. Especially for this as us comic book fans are the only ones who will care. Please don't use it again.
