Hugh Jackman Begins Training For DEADPOOL 3; Briefly Addresses Decision To Return As Wolverine

Fans are still talking about this week's major news that Hugh Jackman is set to reprise the role of Wolverine for Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3, and the actor has now briefly addressed his decision to return as the fan-favorite mutant after previously making it clear that he planned to hang up the claws after James Mangold's Logan.

A fan caught Jackman on camera and asked how Marvel was able to "convince" him to don the muttonchops again. Ever the pro, the actor simply responds that he makes "his own decisions." Is it possible that Jackman was the one to reach out to the studio and/or Ryan Reynolds to see if they'd be interested in a team-up?

It doesn't really matter at this point, because for better or worse, Jackman is returning to his most famous and recognizable role. The Academy Award-nominee has begun training for the shoot (because he looked so out of shape in that announcement teaser), and shared a couple of gym photos to social media.

We have no idea how Logan will factor into the threequel, but there's plenty of comic book material to draw inspiration from. Reynolds has previously revealed that his original pitch for a third Deadpool film prior to the Fox merger focused on a "Rashomon-style" road trip with Wade and Wolvie, so perhaps elements of that idea carried over?

Jackman's involvement also raises the question: is his take on Wolverine joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with Wade Wilson? We can't imagine the actor has committed to more than one additional appearance, but who knows?

There is a rumor doing the rounds that Jackman will don Wolverine's classic yellow costume from the comics, but we wouldn't put too much stock in any supposed "plot leaks" just yet.

I mean, regardless of who was the one to ultimately come up with the idea, Jackman has for years (even before he hung up the claws with Logan) expressed interest in a buddy movie with Reynolds/Deadpool and had been bummed it had not happened. I remember him even saying during press for Logan that as much as he wanted that to happen, he was afraid that ship had sailed.

Jackman wouldn't make this decision if it meant tarnishing what he had done before with his prior run on the character.

@HeavyMetal4Life - good point and totally fair.

I like the fact that they're not continuing past Logan, but rather doing a separate thing. But if they were to do the former, I would pay money to see Swiss Army Man with Wade and Logan's body. Well I'm gonna pay money regardless, but you get the point.

I'm so excited to see Hugh getting back at it! His dedication to this role has always been so inspiring and I can't wait to see what he can come up with for us fans!

His transformation into Logan has always been a sight to behold! Get swol, Mr. Jackman!

@dragon316 - the footage of rabid fans driving these guys nuts is unbelievable. I live in Australia and went to Byron Bay the other day. Was walking down the main, very busy street and realised all of a sudden Chris Hemsworth was standing right next to me. Just having a casual conversation with what I assume was a friend, on the sidewalk, in the middle of a bustling street. I didn’t bother him, didn’t take a photo, I didn’t even try for a smile and wave. I left the guy alone. And so did everyone else. It wasn’t hard. Don’t get why celebs can’t seem to have that in America. It’d drive me insane.

Did people forget how a forum works?

If he was ever going to wear the classic costume, a Deadpool movie is the most likely place for it to happen because of all the humor. I can just hear Wade making fun of it. With the two of them, this has the potential to be the best Deadpool movie ever. I just love their relationship.

@RolandD - If it ends up being Rashomon style road trip movie I can see Logan wearing the costume in the scenes from Deadpool’s POV…Just regular tank top and jeans from Logan’s…

@RolandD - Yeah Ryan and Hugh are close friends in real life and you can watch all kinds of videos of them screwing around with each other. One of my favorites (for those who haven't seen it) is the one from a couple of years ago where they were both doing competing fundraisers for their respective charities. If you have a Sam's Club in your area you may remember it as being a "Team Ryan" vs. "Team Hugh". I won't spoil how it turns out but the videos on it are f**king hilarious. Check them out on YouTube.

With that in mind, I can't wait to se what their actual onscreen chemistry will be like. Like seriously, I don't even care so much about the plot for DP3 at this point as I do about watching those two go at it. They could seriously have a movie with 2 hours of them sitting on (presumably) Ryan's couch and just going at it (without the Wham! obviously) which ends with a portal opening up for no reason whatsoever and BAM! DP is in the MCU and I would be perfectly fine with that.

I feel like the shock has worn off and those photos made me realize this is actually [frick]ing happening. The hype is unreal.

As much as I want to see a shorter, more comic accurate Logan, Jackman’s Wolverine may be the most iconic Marvel film character

I love how marvel narratively is now doing random films that loosely connect. Theres a reason for the randomness as apposed to other studios just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks😐
