Walt Disney Pictures "Alice In Wonderland" took in an estimated $41 million in it's first day. This is a new high for Director Tim Burton. At this rate "Alice" should pass his 2001 "Planet Of The Apes" for his biggest weekend opening ever at $68 million .

I can't wait to see this.

Tron Legacy had a trailer come with AIW? Awesome, but shitty at the same time. Awesome because I'm really anticipating that movie, but shitty because I don't want to watch AIW. That trailer better come online soon >:O

I hate Burton with a passion. Every time Depp makes a movie with him I wonder why he would waste his talent on this weirdo. I'll take Michael Bay over Burton any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The movie was alright, nothing spectacular though. Depp AND Burton have done much better. But I agree with above post, it was worth seeing the new Tron trailer in 3D.

I always give Burton a chance because his movies look interesting but time after time I'm just bored. The only movie of his that I truly enjoyed was Big Fish. That being said, I will gladly go see Alice in Wonderland with plenty of optimism.

I'll weigh in even though I haven't seen the movie yet.

I've seen alot of negative comments about Burton ever since I've been reading.

He's not your average person, but there's nothing "bad" about him. People think he's "weird" - meaning that he doesn't fit the "norms of society". Alot of people who see outside the box, and achieve human innovation are "weird" and do not fit the "norms of society". He's a humanist, and the world could use more people like him imo.

That said, as a filmmaker he's pretty far past his prime, and for the last ten years, every film he's made has seemed homogonized, formulaic, and lacking in originality. I do expect that to a degree from this movie, but I'll go to see it anyway.

I have seen what seems to be a pretty general consensus on Carter being miscast - which I figure accurate. She seems to be acting as his anti-muse. Depp is what's drawing the crowds here - ever since POTC everyone wants to see what he's gonna do next.

Personally I think anyone who thinks Pee Wee, Beatlejuice, Scissorhands, and Batman 1 and 2 "suck", is "weird" and "lame" and even sort of "dumb". Afterall we do have Burton to thank for demonstrating that a dark cbm can function on a very high level.

Let me add Big Fish, and Nightmare (though he only produced) to his list of successes.

Yes his Batman's are completely dated, and seem relatively campy at this point, but you know, Burton threw a shit fit to get Keaton cast. He understood how important it is for Batman to have a really dark side. Fast forward - That's at least part of how we ended up with Bale for BB/TDK (because of American Psycho). Again, we have a great deal to thank him for as far as cbms go.

He and Johnny are 2 of the most well spoken of people in the business, of course it's gonna do really well lol.

48and2- The guy is a f**king hack who belongs with the Paris Hiltons of the world. His only saving grace was Johnny Depp's stupidity to work with him so many times. Maybe Depp feels like he owes Burton something for his career. While Depp is talented, he doesn't have a lot in the brain department, hence his working relationship with Burton. Depp should have had more faith in himself then surrendering to a freak show like Burton. Imagine if Depp only choose to work with A-list directors how great he might have been.

Burton is far from a "hack" assassin, and I would take a "freak show" like Burton any day over a pompous prick like Cameron, when it comes to personalities at least. Oh and Beetlejuice and Batman 1 and 2 were decent, I just never thought they were great or anything.

Assassin666, if you're going to argue that you don't like Burton, try not to say stupid things like "hack" and "freak show" and mention "paris hilton" etc. You lose your argument by default. If you don't like him that's fine, at least make valid points to hold up YOUR claim. You can't just throw out random shit and think anyone will actually agree with you. It's pretty obvious he isn't a hack, he's popular as [frick], as is Depp, and if you don't know this I don't know what else to say to your blind ass.
