Disney's Beauty and the Beast just keeps on breaking records and exceeding expectations. Yesterday, the Disney flick made $11 million and this makes its opening week come to a massive total of
$228.6 million. That makes it the sixth highest grossing opening week in box office history. It is only after
Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($390.8 million),
Jurassic World ($296.2 million),
Marvel's The Avengers ($270.1 million),
The Dark Knight ($238.6 million), and
Avengers: Age of Ultron ($235.6 million). That also means that despite opening less than
Captain America: Civil War, the Emma Waton-led film is already outearning it.
Beauty and the Beast had a record-breaking opening weekend of $174.7 million, and it is set to repeat this weekend. The Disney flick is set to have a massive second weekend of
$84 million. That means just a drop of -52%. That drop is similiar to the likes of
Jurassic World (-49%) and
Marvel's The Avengers (-50%). That $84 million projected figure also means that it would be the fourth highest grossing second weekend only after
Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149.2 million),
Jurassic World ($106.5 million), and
Marvel's The Avengers ($103.1 million). That would also put it ahead of
Avengers: Age of Ultron ($77.7 million). Of course, there is a chance of it exceeding expectations once more and potentially reaching $90 million or even $100 million this weekend.
Worldwide,
Beauty and the Beast has crossed $500 million already. It is expected to make reach $1 billion in the next upcoming weeks. Will you watch
