CRUELLA Trailer And Poster Sees Emma Stone Go Full "Psycho" As The Iconic Disney Villain

Disney just dropped the first trailer for Cruella, and Emma Stone definitely isn't going to portray a sympathetic version of this iconic 101 Dalmatians villain! Take a look at this sneak peek right here...

Academy Award winner Emma Stone stars in Disney's Cruella, the studio's latest live-action feature based on one of its animated classics (in this case, 101 Dalmatians).

It's set to follow the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious, and notoriously fashionable, villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. Set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, the movie focuses on a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets.

One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

This trailer delivers some fun visuals, and points to Cruella being an entertaining watch. It certainly doesn't look like the iconic villain is going to be portrayed in a sympathetic light (unlike, say, Maleficent), so the movie might need to rely heavily on Stone's charisma to get viewers invested.

It's also worth noting that a release date has now been set for May 28th...with no clarification on whether Cruella will debut in theaters, on Disney+, or both. All we know for now is that it's "releasing" that day, so keep checking back, as we'll hopefully have an update for you soon.

Because that's what I wanted watching 101 Dalmatians as a kid.

"Gee, I really need a backstory to Cruella"

That being said, the cinematography looks gorgeous.

I know there will be the people saying the very original line "who asked for this?", like studios only work on projects that people are asking for. But could be interesting and Emma Stone is a huge plus.

@Urubrodi - Every time someone asks that about a movie, I think, "Who asked for Star Wars?"

The answer for those questions is the same for it this time "Definitely the people who paid to have it made; The Studio 🤷🏽‍♂️"

@Urubrodi - I think "who asked for this?" is a fair question for a seemingly random spin-off(?) like this. But now that the trailer is out, it looks like they're trying for a Joker vibe, which is something I can see lots of people asking for.

I used to think that my life was a tragedy. Then I realized that it was a Disney musical...

@Spidey91 - That's not in 4:3 aspect ratio and there's no dark color grading, gratuitous slow motion and excessive yet bad CGI

So they took a character that simply wanted to turn puppies into a fur coat and made her a Harley Quinn-esque bank robber, magic using super criminal? Why? Of all the things that are unnecessary, this is probably the most.

so, would she be bad or is this going to be like maleficent where she ends up to be nicer than the main character

@Superheromoviefan - I think it’s more an origin than running parallel to the original story so I would guess still bad but sympathetic. Not sure how you can spin wanting to kill 101 puppies for a coat though.

in all seriousness, this looks....good? It's at least interesting. Looks less like a Disney joint and more like a period drama/character piece that just so happens to be about Cruella, aka the "Joker" approach.

We live in a society where faux furs are a distant memory. Isn’t that right, Dalmatians?
