Variety is reporting that Disney has entered final talks with Ed Skrein to join the cast of their upcoming Maleficent sequel. Details on his role remain under wraps, but it has been confirmed to be the film's primary antagonist.

Production is slated to begin later this year with both Academy Award-winner Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning set to reprise their roles from the 2014 blockbuster, which grossed over $758.5 million worldwide. Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) will direct with a script from Jez Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow) and Linda Woolverton (Maleficent).

Skrein is, of course, best known for his breakout performances as Ajax Francis in the Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool and as Daario Naharis in three episodes of HBO's Game of Thrones. His next project is Robert Rodriguez's highly-ambitious Alita: Battle Angel, which is due out this Christmas.

@tylerzero - Agreed, Maleficent was such a huge let down for me, especially because I watched the entire movie thinking it would have a sad ending.

They are still doing that? Cool... I guess... Kind of getting overshadowed by Aladdin, Mulan, and Lion King in my mind at this point.

The first one was really bad. She was supposed to be EVIL not a mother to Aurora. Pathetic

I had forgotten about this film. How many more of these live-action adaptations are there going to be? IMO, The Jungle Book has been the only good one so far.

Alice in Wonderland (2010) - Okay, I guess
Maleficent (2014) - Mediocre
Cinderella (2015) - Mediocre
The Jungle Book (2016) - Pretty Good
Beauty & the Beast (2016) - Just Good

In production, still to be released:

Christopher Robin - 8/3/2018
Mary Poppins Returns - 12/25/2018
Dumbo - 3/29/2019
Aladdin - 5/24/2019
The Lion King - 7/19/2019
Mulan - 3/27/2020

Announced, but still in early stages of production (if at all):

The Jungle Book Sequel - No release date
The Sword in the Stone - No release date
Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs - No release date
Prince Charming (Snow White) - No release date
Cruella (101 Dalmatians) - No release date (Emma Stone attached to star)
Peter Pan - No release date
"Tink" (Tinkerbell film) - No release date (Reese Witherspoon attached to star)
Pinocchio - No release date
Little Mermaid - No release date (Lin-Manuel Miranda writing)
Lady & the Tramp - No release date
James and the Giant Peach - No release date
Chip n' Dale - No release date
Chernabog (from Fantasia) - No release date

That's a lot of f.ucking films, and I bet I missed at least one.
