Disney is looking to readapt another of their animated classics with a remake of their 1998 film,
Mulan. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, a casting search is officially underway for a Chinese actress to portray the heroine. The studio announced today that the movie, which is being fast-tracked, has been given a release date of
Nov. 2, 2018. It will also be released in 3D.
No director has been decided upon for the project, but Jason Reed is attached to produce along with Chris Bender and Jake Weiner. The studio announced that Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (
Jurassic World) would be rewriting a spec script for
Mulan that Disney bought in 2015.
Disney's
Mulan is based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the daughter of an warrior who disguises herself as a man in order to take her father's place in the army and go to war.
The announcement comes on the heels of a string of live-action remakes by Disney, including
The Jungle Book, the upcoming
Beauty And The Beast, and the recently announced remake of
