Following last week's big Disney+ announcement, Walt Disney Studios has released a brand new offiical trailer for Pixar's next sure-to-be instant classic, Soul, which has garnered widespread critical acclaim thus far and is currently boasting a perfect 100% Certified Fresh rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

The trailer offers a lot more in terms of actual plot details as we get better acquainted with a passionate music teacher named Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx), whose soul gets separated from his body after an accident and instead of passing on, he resists moving on and ends up falling into The Great Before, a world where souls develop personalities, quirks, and traits before being sent off to Earth. He then partners up with 22 (Tina Fey) to find a a way back to his body before it dies while also doing his best to avoid being captured by a soul counter named Terry (Rachel House).

The voice cast features Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained; Collateral), 3x Golden Globe- and 9x Primetime Emmy-winner Tina Fey (30 Rock; Mean Girls), Questlove (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping; Top Five), 4x Primetime Emmy-nominee Phylicia Rashad (CreedEmpire), Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer; Hamilton), Academy Award-nominee Angela Bassett (Mission: Impossible - Fallout; Black Panther), 2x Primetime Emmy-nominee John Ratzenberger (Toy Story; The Incredibles), and BAFTA Film Award-nominee Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd; The Mandalorian).

Additionally, newly revealed cast members include 5x BAFTA-winner Graham Norton (The Graham Norton Show), Rachel House (Hunt for the WilderpeopleThor: Ragnaraok), Alice Braga (The New MutantsI Am Legend), Wes Studi (WokeThe Last of the Mohicans), Fortune Feimster (The Mindy ProjectBless the Harts), Zenobia Shroff (The Big Sick; The Affair), Donnell Rawlings (Spider-Man 2Chappelle's Show), and June Squibb (Hubie Halloween; Nebraska).

What is it that makes you...YOU? This November, Pixar Animation Studios’ all-new feature film “Soul” introduces Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx) – a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22 (voice of Tina Fey), who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what’s great about living, he may just discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions. Directed by Academy Award® winner Pete Docter (“Inside Out,” “Up”), co-directed by Kemp Powers (“One Night in Miami”) and produced by Academy Award nominee Dana Murray, p.g.a. (Pixar short “Lou”), Disney and Pixar’s “Soul” opens in U.S. theaters on November 20, 2020.

Soul arrives exclusively on Disney+ December 25

Of all the latest Pixar films, this one looked like it deserved a theatrical release the most.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - yep, if this had happened for a movie like finding dory, Brave or the good dinosaur, I won't even care.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - “deserved” is an interesting word, but I totally get it after a lifetime of straight-to-video releases being seen as lesser fare.

Wow, that looks beautiful!

Personally, I’m thrilled that it’s coming on Christmas and not sitting on a shelf for a year.
