Last month, we learned that Disney had created a real-life, working lightsaber as a prop for its upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Disney World attraction, and we now have a first look at the Jedi weapon in action.
Disney Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro unveiled the lightsaber as part of the "Special Look Inside Disney Parks" virtual event in April, but no photos or video were made available... until now.
To celebrate Star Wars Day (May the fourth be with you), Disney Parks has shared a brief video of an actor in Rey garb igniting the laser-sword.
Of course, the saber's "blade" is not actually a laser (you won't be disarming Walrus Man with this baby), but we're sure you'll agree that the overall effect is quite impressive, and it does resemble a real lightsaber.
We're still not sure if this will eventually become available for the public to purchase (if it ever does, expect to fork out a lot of money to get your hands on one), but for now, fans will have to wait until 2022's Galactic Starcruiser attraction to see characters "wield the new lightsaber, which was created by Walt Disney Imagineering to create dramatic in-person moments previously only seen in films or shows."
“When the Launch Pod’s airlock slides open, you’ll take your first step into a galaxy far, far away as Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser comes to life all around you," the blurb continues. "During your stay aboard this glamorous ship, you may interact with an eclectic group of characters both familiar and new, possibly including the starcruiser’s strong and charismatic captain, a plucky ship’s mechanic and a galactic superstar who can captivate an entire room with the crook of one jewel-encrusted purple Twi’lek finger.”
