Disney has found great success with their live-action reboots of classic cartoons and Aladdin is currently well into the casting process. Will Smith has already been chosen to play the Genie, while Mena Massoud will star as the title character and Power Rangers actress Naomi Scott is taking on the role of Jasmine. Now, Marwan Kenzari is in talks to suit up as the delightfully villainous Jafar.

He's set to break out in Kenneth Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express and has also appeared in The Mummy and Ben-Hur. It's also been revealed that Saturday Night Live's Nasim Pedrad will play a character created specifically for the Disney movie. She'll take on the role of Mara, the handmaiden and friend to Jasmine. It's described as a comedic supporting role so expect her to bring the laughs!

Guy Ritchie is directing Aladdin and the plan is for it to remake
the 1992 animated classic while also taking cues from folk tales told in One Thousand and One Nights. What do you guys think of this latest casting addition? As always, be sure to share your thoughts on this news in the comments section.

What could and should have been. No disrespect to Marwan Kenzari, yet I just feel like he is younger than Jafar should be.

@BlackIceJoe - Maybe they didn't want to make the Jafar/Jasmine thing overly creepy so they de-aged him

@BlackIceJoe - I disagree. He was trying to marry Jasmine. Him being played by a younger man makes that whole scenario much less creepy to the audience.

Plus, if they had cast him as Jafar, they would have had to also hire Colm Meaney as the voice of Iago.

@DJRock93 - Which makes sense. I think originally Jasmine is supposed to be a in her early teens, and even though Scott is a bit older and an adult, having a 51 year old Jafar could definitely be a bit creepy.

With Kenzari, there's still an age difference, but not nearly as creepy.
