Remember Star Wars: Detours? You Can Finally See It!

Seth Green says Star Wars: Detours, the animated comedy that's been sitting on the shelf since 2013, will screen at George Lucas' new museum!

In October 2013 we published a story headlined "Will We Ever See Star Wars: Detours? Seth Green Thinks We Will". Almost thirteen years later, Green has an actual answer for us!

At a San Diego Comic-Con panel in July, he revealed that a rotating selection of Star Wars: Detours episodes will play inside the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, the institution George Lucas has spent years building in Los Angeles, from its opening on September 22nd.

"We made a show with George, an animated series," Green said. "It's called Detours, and there's going to be a curation of episodes from that show on display for the public."

Our 2013 piece caught Green mid-optimism. At the time Lucasfilm wanted to wait until after Episode VII so that a parody wouldn't be a kid's first exposure to Star Wars. The sequel trilogy has since come and gone, along with a run of Disney+ series from The Mandalorian to Andor.

A year before that, in August 2012, we posted the first trailer and three clips. Lucasfilm had premiered footage at Star Wars Celebration VI that summer and was treating it as a show with a launch date, which it effectively had.

Then the Disney deal closed, and by March 2013 somebody upstairs decided a goofy cartoon would send the wrong signal about a franchise being rebuilt around a serious new trilogy. Green has shared that the series currently has 39 finished episodes with 62 more scripts written, and Lucasfilm had already paid for all of it.

They also shelved an amazing voice cast. Anthony Daniels returned as C-3PO and Billy Dee Williams as Lando, with Seth MacFarlane, Weird Al Yankovic and Andy Richter filling out a roster Lucas himself helped assemble after recruiting Green and Matthew Senreich off their Robot Chicken specials. Stoopid Buddy Stoodios animated it.

Hope faded slowly after that. Felicia Day called the project dead in 2015. Six years later Green admitted that the streaming era hadn't helped either and no one at Disney was interested in giving it a home.

The good news is that you can finally watch it, but only if you can make your way to Los Angeles, as the only place to see it will be the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Currently there's no streaming plan, no disc, and no word on how many of the 39 episodes make the cut, or even how long the exhibit runs.

The museum itself has been a moving target. Pushed from its original opening date of 2021 to 2023 to 2025 before settling on next month. The current September date has at least stood firm since it was announced in November.

Six minutes of the show, with Weird Al and Richter voicing bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-LOM, appeared online in November 2020 before Lucasfilm scrubbed it.

Lucas told the press last year that he has "moved past" Star Wars since Disney took it over, and now the comedy he dreamed up is playing in the building with his name on it.

Do you still want to see all 39 episodes, or has that ship sailed?

ComicBookMovie.com and Best Little Sites was the brainchild of Nate and a friend way back in 2002. Nate initially focused on the back-end programming and front-end design, but now manages the company and its associated sites as well, with a LOT of help from some very talented contributors.

Nate has loved comics from a very young age and continues to read them on a regular basis thanks to subscriptions to various titles (both Marvel and DC). He also loves movies, as his wife and children will attest. He's not overly critical of movies, so his reviews should be taken with a grain of salt as he's much more interested in being entertained and escaping the "real" world for a couple of hours than finding every conceivable plot-hole and character flaw in a film.

Outside of his guilty "nerdy" pleasures, Nate enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys, CrossFit, playing guitar, coaching youth sports and MMA (he spent a couple of years in the cage as an NHB fighter, but is now MUCH too old).

Lucas has dropped 1.5 billion on this thing.

After the locals and a few travelers see it, it’ll be a ghost town in a year.
