GAME OF THRONES Star Sophie Turner On Playing 'Jean Grey' In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Sophie Turner talks here about the similarities between Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, and comments on how much of Famke Jannsen she intends to channel as well as her plans to turn to the comic books as a main source of inspiration. Check it out!

IGN caught up with Sophie Turner to talk about X-Men: Apocalypse recently, and while the actress has yet to see the script (meaning she had no idea about whether or not Jean Grey will be getting a costume or how big her role will be), she did still share some interesting details about her role in the movie. "I think maybe one of the reasons that they chose me for [Jean] is because they saw the dark side of Sansa," she told them about landing the role. "Maybe they're thinking, 'Oh, Phoenix, Jean Grey.' I definitely see a lot of parallels in there. [Jean] struggles with her power... and not being accepted in the human world. I think in terms of [Game of Thrones], that's kind of the way Sansa felt in that she really wanted to be a normal princess/queen and live a normal life -- and she doesn't, because of all this havoc happens. I think Jean, in a way, feels that."

While she may not be entirely sure about what direction X-Men: Apocalypse will be taking Jean Grey in, the Game of Thrones star did say that she wants to "bring something different to the character," adding: "I think Famke played Jean incredibly well, but also, I'm playing a younger version of her. I want to emulate Famke in a sense, because she has to seem like the Jean in the first two movies, but I'm also going to put my own twist on her. I think I'm also going to take inspiration from the comics. I don't know, we'll see." That will obviously be music to the ears of fans, and it sounds like Turner can't wait to fully delve into that research. "I'm really, really excited to play [Jean]. She's an icon." Poor choice in regards to looks-wise to Famke , especially considering how flawless the casting of Fassbender and McAvoy was.
Never seen her act so can't comment on her talent but she's gorgeous.

I was rooting for Saoirse Ronan.

When I first heard she was cast, I thought she was all wrong for the part (as far as looks). But judging from the pic above, I think she could work as Jean.

As long as they do something with her accent. Jean Grey should be American.

poor choice comparing her look to Famke and you wanted Saoirse? Saoirse looks even LESS than Famke lol

Sophie is tall, just like Famke and is stunning, just like Famke too in a sense. So... Id say its a pretty solid choice. not perfect, lookwise, and Sophie is british, but... a pretty great choice.

So happy with this casting!! She's very talented and quite lovely. Hope Singer gives the X-Men a bit more extravagant costumes, it's the 80s after all.

I've got a feeling she'll go pre-Phoneix when taking on Apocalypse. Just my guess.

I see more of Famke in Saoirse (face shape etc) than with Sophie

But generally I think Saoirse deserves a more phstical and bad ass role, she was fantastic in Hanna.
But I'm rooting for Sophie for the movie.

Yea... Im wondering about her accent as well. Its gonna sound weird thats for sure because she has that distinctive british accent that seems hard to get passed kinda like sam worthington. Even when he speaks with a differnt accent he still pronounces some words the same.

@ShadowakaTankD Yea Even in DOFP there were a few times I could notice times where PEter Dinklage's accent was starting to become a little noticable.

I personally hate talking about looks. It's such a Superficial thing to talk about when it comes to acting.
But I will say that Sophie has a rounder, fuller face than Famke, who has much squarer, sharper face.
