DOOM PATROL Star Brendan Fraser On The Prospect Of Returning To THE MUMMY Franchise: "Sign Me Up"

Brendan Fraser (Doom Patrol, The Whale) was asked if he had any interest in returning to The Mummy franchise as Rick O'Connell, and it sounds like he'd be more than happy to reprise the role...

Though Stephen Sommers' The Mummy wasn't particularly well-received by critics when it was released back in 1999, it proved to be a surprise hit for Universal and has gained a massive fan-following over the years, with Indiana Jones-like (lite?) adventurer Rick O'Connell still viewed as star Brendan Fraser's best-known role.

With Fraser currently enjoying a career resurgence thanks to the likes of HBO Max's Doom Patrol and Darren Aronofsky's The Whale, is there any chance he'd be interested in returning as his most famous character?

As a matter of fact, it sounds like he'd be only too happy to get back kicking some undead ass!

“I’m not opposed to it, I don’t know an actor who doesn’t want a job," he tells Deadline. "I don’t think I’ve been this famous and unsalaried at the same time in my professional life so sign me up!”

Universal Pictures did reboot The Mummy with 2017's notorious flop starring Tom Cruise, but it had very little to do with the previous, far more light-hearted movies, and was developed as the first instalment in the studio's ill-fated Dark Universe.

We've actually heard that both Fraser and Dwayne Johnson - who played the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns and its spin-off - have been approached about a potential revival of the franchise. Nothing solid for now, but with Fraser's star back on the rise and The Rock seemingly done with Black Adam, the timing couldn't be any better.

Would you guys like to see Fraser back as Rick O'Connell in The Mummy 4? Drop us a comment down below.

@DocSpock - Worked for Top Gun, Avatar 2, and the upcoming Indiana Jones 5...so why not? Even if he's too overweight, can't do his own stunts, and is no longer the young handsome energetic lead he was 20 - 30 years ago.

I would LOVE a 3rd movie (or 4th if they still count Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) if they get the original actors (Fraser, Hannah AND Weisz) to reprise their roles.

They could either take the story back to Egypt or focus on something else, perhaps an Aztec mummy.

@tmp3 -

Fraiser deserves all the praise he's getting, and then some! Arronofsky is perhaps my favourite director, and this is easily one of his most sentimental pieces, right up there with The Fountain. I don't wanna get into spoilers, but the behaviour of Chau's character was almost creepy at times. You'll know what I mean once you see the movie.

When they wanted to make the "Monsterverse", it would have been an interesting idea to bring him back in a "Nick Fury" role, but him starring in another Mummy movie...nah.
We all love Brendan, but nah.

''I don’t know an actor who doesn’t want a job''

Finally, someone who dares say it.

Anyway, a Mummy sequel with Fraser and Weisz is a legacy sequel I'd definitely be interested in seeing.
