Though Stephen Sommers' The Mummy wasn't particularly well-received by critics when it was released back in 1999, it proved to be a surprise hit for Universal and has gained a massive fan-following over the years, with Indiana Jones-like (lite?) adventurer Rick O'Connell still viewed as star Brendan Fraser's best-known role.
With Fraser currently enjoying a career resurgence thanks to the likes of HBO Max's Doom Patrol and Darren Aronofsky's The Whale, is there any chance he'd be interested in returning as his most famous character?
As a matter of fact, it sounds like he'd be only too happy to get back kicking some undead ass!
“I’m not opposed to it, I don’t know an actor who doesn’t want a job," he tells Deadline. "I don’t think I’ve been this famous and unsalaried at the same time in my professional life so sign me up!”
Universal Pictures did reboot The Mummy with 2017's notorious flop starring Tom Cruise, but it had very little to do with the previous, far more light-hearted movies, and was developed as the first instalment in the studio's ill-fated Dark Universe.
We've actually heard that both Fraser and Dwayne Johnson - who played the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns and its spin-off - have been approached about a potential revival of the franchise. Nothing solid for now, but with Fraser's star back on the rise and The Rock seemingly done with Black Adam, the timing couldn't be any better.
