FANTASTIC BEASTS 3: Mads Mikkelsen Responds To Those Gellert Grindelwald Casting Rumors

After Johnny Depp was asked to walk away from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, reports surfaced claiming Mads Mikkelsen would take over from him. Now, the actor responds!

Johnny Depp was never an overly popular choice to play Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, so the news that he had essentially been fired by Warner Bros. didn't upset too many people. This came about after his very public court battle with The Sun newspaper over their decision to brand him a "wife-beater" following a series of allegations made by ex-wife Amber Heard.

Now, the hunt is on for a new Grindelwald, and it was recently reported that Doctor Strange and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Mads Mikkelsen is in early talks for Fantastic Beasts 3

IGN recently caught up with the actor to discuss his role in the long-delayed Lionsgate movie Chaos Walking, and asked him whether there's any truth to him heading to the Wizarding World. As you might expect, Mikkelsen chose his words carefully when addressing that possibility.

"Oh, that is on the rumor basis as we speak," the prolific, popular actor claimed. "So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I'm waiting for that phone call."

It seems likely that Mikkelsen is just playing coy, and can't comment on where things stand with his possible deal to star in the Harry Potter spinoff series. However, if he decides against playing the villain, then it will be very interesting to see where Warner Bros. turns next.

We'll keep you guys updated.

@DARKSIDEIS - HEREHERE! He was great as Dr. Lecter and I'd love to see a fourth season adapting Silence of the Lambs.
I'm still furious that MGM went ahead with their own Hannibal-free series about Clarice.

@Blergh - I loved Season 1 and Season 2 was awesome from the beginning to the beautiful and breathtaking finale.

Season 3 didn't feel like a krimi, but I still loved the cast.
The ending was kinda romantic.

@DARKSIDEIS - Season 1 & 2 were more villain-of-the week heavy while 3 had a continously told storyline like the Harris books did.
I personally actually preferred that way of telling the story.

Still hope something new comes out of the Hannibal universe, even if it's a new movie with Anthony Hopkins sitting in a wheelchair being fed human meat by his murderous assistant.

I could see him in the role BUT only under the requirement that Grindelwald has his real face burnt in the opening scene of FB3 and replaces it with another (or he takes possession of another body).

I hate recasts in continuity based movies, Grindelwalds white eye appearing suddenly already annoyed me to no end (although I did appreciating them getting the same younger actor to portray him in the second one)

I get that Colin Farrell can't do it cause he's in The Batman...but just delay shooting the movie until he can shoot as Grindelwald again. He's too good in the first fantastic beasts, better than Depp especially.
