News on Fantastic Beasts 3 has been slim since the underperformance of Crimes of Grindelwald last fall. With a major release date change, and the Heard-Depp controversy brewing, Fantastic Beasts 3 is currently experience a good chunk of behind-the-scenes drama.

According to The Blast, Johnny Depp still has not been picked up for a sequel to reprise his role as the franchise's antagonist. Though his contract has him obligated for five films, Warner Bros. still has not optioned him to return for the third. Reportedly, some in the industry have lobbied for Depp's removal. If Warner Bros. does not approach the actor before production, it could be safe to say that he has been recasted. On the other hand, a majority of the crew supports Depp's return, which fares well for his reprise.

It will be interesting to see how this situation pans out before production commenses this Spring.

Odd. Wasn't the release date pushed back a year recently?

Depp was one of my favourite parts of 'The Crimes of Grindelwald'

Although Amber Heard is a terrible actress I feel this may come down to a pick-em scenario so that WB can avoid awkwardness and controversy going forward. And since Aquaman way out performed FB2 we know who they'll pick.

I mean did they prove that he abused his ex?
There are just as many stories about how abusive she was, no?
I thought Depp was good as Grindelwald.

Depp’s dumbass behavior isn’t new. WB and JK Rowling knew about it before casting him in the last two films. If there was a time to fire or replace the guy, it was four years ago. His character is the series’ primary antagonist. They can’t just write him out.

Both he and Amber seem TOXIC AS HELL and both probably abused one another. Its pretty obvious. If one suffers, so should the other.

I wish they would cancel this series and start over with Dumbledore and Grindelwald being kids and you see them grow over a five film series. In the last movie Dumbledore wins and send Grindelwald to prison.

They will have to make a decision sooner or later. The court verdict would be help here. Either more Depp and no Amber or the other way around. No Amber mean recasting Mera.

Depp and Jude Law have been in a movie before and I thought they were pretty great in it even though they played renditions of the same character. We need Johnny as Grindelwald and I think if they were to recast him the movies would lose what little viewers they have already. He was very charismatic and charming when he spoke and I paid attention to him more than I ever did to Voldemart. Fantastic Beasts needs him for the other part of the story. Just like they need Eddie.

As for Amber, she's the reason I haven't watched Aquaman even though I absolutely adore Jason Momoa. And the fact that Aquaman has been my favorite DC character for some time says something as well. I was incredibly excited for this movie but since I found out she was a part of it, I passed on watching it.
