THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Season 2 Rumored To Feature The Debut Of Tom Bombadil

We don't have too much to go on, but a new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that the mysterious Tom Bombadil will make his debut during season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

"Eldest, that's what I am... Tom remembers the first raindrop and the first acorn... He knew the dark under the stars when it was fearless - before the Dark Lord came from Outside."

While we're not putting too much stock in this one just yet, a new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that Tom Bombadil will make his debut during the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

According to TheOneRing.net - who has shared quite a few accurate scoops in the past - Bombadil has already been cast, and has been name-dropped by crew members on set.

If you've read Tolkien's seminal trilogy, you should be very familiar with this mysterious character, who was introduced along with his wife Goldberry when Frodo and his company made their way through the Old Forest in The Fellowship of the Ring. Bombadil was clearly a very powerful individual, who was actually able to put the ring on without turning invisible or being influenced by its evil.

Tolkien never revealed much about ol' Tom, but he claimed to have existed before the Dark Lord came to Arda, leading to speculation that he may even have been alive even before the coming of the Valar. If the character is indeed set to feature in season 2 of The Rings of Power, this gives the show quite a bit of creative freedom.

A lot of fans were disappointed that Bombadil didn't appear in Peter Jackson's trilogy, although the chapters he features in are generally seen as being a little superfluous to the main story. Still, his absence meant we were also robbed of seeing one of the most creepy moments from the novel: the Barrow Wight attack.

We'll be sure to keep you updated if and when we learn more, but for now, let us know what you think about the prospect of Tom Bombadil showing up in The Rings of Power in the comments section.

Translation: "we promise we're accurate to the lore. Honest. Look, here's a character even Peter Jackson never adapted!"

@Origame - train wreck part 2.0 incoming. I have zero desire to give a single flying [frick] after that abortion of a first season.

@Origame - pretty sure that Bombadil only held the ring and did not wear it, and that this was sort of a clever way of showing Frodo that its power was not absolute.

Also, most longtime Tolkien followers have Bombadil as Orome, the huntsman, a mid-powered Vala who often moved about in Middle Earth in disguise, activity hunting the servants of Morgoth. With the exception of Iluvatar, there are no older beings in the legendarium.

Really wish that these articles were better canon-checked.

@SauronthePower - oh I know. Just saying they're probably using the fact bombadil is in the show as proof of how accurate it is to the lore when it really isn't.

@Origame - perhaps they will cast him as an Entwive 🤷‍♂️

@Origame - Also…..I thought that theAmazon and the showrunners were limited to Appendice material only. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that Bombadil and Goldberry are never name-checked in any of that material.
Kinda throws a wrench in the whole: ‘we’re severely limted by the scope of material that we have secured the rights to utilize…..’ BS narrative that Amazon has been tossing around as cover-fire for puss-poor writing

@Origame - The only guy that could have ever played him was Robin Williams

@SauronthePower - they only own the rights to the lord of the rings, the hobbit, and the appendices. Nothing about the actual time period this is set in. Kinda explains what we got.

@FleischerSupes - oh no. Now I feel bad.

Rip!

As long as he's a lovely fellow, his coat is blue, and his boots are yellow. No yellow boots, no Tom.

@DalekCraigWasson -

Expecting something like this from the producers/writers of this lore tarnishing abomination might be too much.

@bobevanz - He was the pretty dude that coincidentally showed up in the ocean right by Galadriel and none of the heroes ever suspected him.

And I fully expect them to butcher him like they have everything else in the lore.

What a dud of a series.
