Sony and Media Rights Capital have hired former Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara to get their tie-in Dark Tower television show off the ground. There's currently no network attached and production isn't expected to kick off until 2018 but The Hollywood Reporter's sources tell the trade that Sony is expecting the project to go straight-to-series for a 10-13 episode run.
Of course, the current discussion right now is how the film is facing a bit of adversity at the moment as reports surface of tension between Sony and the film's director, terrible review scores and a modest opening weekend box office projection. Still, it's estimated low-$20 million domestic opening is expected to give the film the #1 spot in an especially weak August.
The Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey led film opens in US theaters tomorrow.
