My Review of Blackest Night #1

My Review of Blackest Night #1

I admit I don't know much about the Green Lanterns, or the series, but this storyline leaves you wanting more.

Okay. So I admit I don't know much about the Green Lantern Corps. I know the basic stuff, such as Alan Scott was the first Green Lantern, then came Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, and Guy Gardner (not sure if they are in order, so sorry to GL fans). I also know that Hal Jordan went CRAZY, and died, but he came back, and I know the GL Corps protects certain sectors. Anyways... I was glad that when I picked up Blackest Night #1 I knew enough to enjoy the storyline, and whatever I didn't know the comic filled in the gaps.
The storyline was fantastic for this first book. Got right into the storyline, there wasn't any unnecessary bull going on. Also like I said before it filled in the gaps for those (like me) who haven't been reading or keeping up. Also it was DARK. I like dark story lines, and considering the Black Lanterns are suppose to be fallen heroes or victims or loved ones, etc, I was hoping for a dark story. I wasn't disappointed. Especially when they showed how they charge their rings... Wow. In fact I went and bought every prelude to Blackest Night comic I could get my hands on because I wanted more. I am looking forward to the next 7 issues.
Also the very cool ring. I love it and I am wearing it now. ^_^
Sorry if this is a crappy review. I haven't done a review for a comic book and I don't want to give anything away to those who want to read it.

I've read every issue of Green Lantern since Hal came back. Geoff Johns has done a good job building up to this point. Blackest Night is really off to a great start. I just dont wanna' see it peter out like Secret Invasion or Final Crisis.

InstigatorGirl- Congrats on your first comic review. Keep them coming. Damn I want a ring! This storyline started off very good. I knew I was not going to be disappointed but this was alot better then I originally thought.

I like your tastes Anil Rickly!

Dellamorte1872, I also liked the Tales Of The Corp #1. The Mongol story was really twisted. I also agree with you on the downward spiral of both Green Arrow/Black Canary and JLA. I keep buying 'em every month hoping for the best, but I've only been let down. G.A./B.C. needs to ditch that creative team and get Judd Winick back. JLA should pick up after James Robinson takes up the title. If you havent already, check out Justice League: Cry For Justice miniseries.

@ Anil- You are right about Morrison. He let me down with Crisis. I dug RIP but it could have been better. He does seem to have a good grasp of Bruce Wayne and he does seem to get what Dick is like.

@longbowhunter- Judd Winick is one of my favorite writers and I dug his run on Green Arrow. I am glad that he is back on Batman because I think he writes Dick Grayson perfectly.

Dellamorte1872, I understand your concern with Congorilla and Batwoman I dont care for either one of them. The artwork in Cry For Justice is awesome. Green Arrow, Green Lantern and Supergirl are three of my favorite characters, so I was sold. James Robinson has also brought back the blue skinned alien Starman. I love those Starman books from the '90s.

Ironknight27, good to meet a fellow Winick fan. There are people who dont like him. I've collected all his Green Arrow books and thought his Outsiders stories were great as well. I love where he is taking Dick emotionally in Batman.

longbowhunter- I loved Winick's run on Outsiders and that made me think he should do a nightwing run. In outsiders he made Dick look like a total badass.

Actually I didnt mind so much that he resurrected Jason because I dug him as the Red Hood. He really is an interesting villain. Exiles was awesome though and Outsiders was one of my favorite books for a while.

Jason does make for an interesting villain for Dick and Tim because they both do not have the guilt over what happened to Jason like Bruce did. The fight between Jason and Dick was awesome and I cant wait for the rematch.

Brubaker needs to return to batman. I read in the october previews that Two-Face is the one beating the hell out of Dick in the BatCave and on the cover of that comic TwoFace is wearing his version of the Bat suit.

I wondered if he figures out Batman's identity as well. Twoface did find the Batcave once without making the connection of Bruce and Batman.

Ra's al Ghul also knows along with Bane.

That storyline with Hush looking like Bruce looks like it is going to be interesting. By the way I finally got a Black Lantern Ring and I like it!

Great review. I love reading a review from someone who is a casual fan rather than a die hard fan. I think it is more unbiased that way.
