The official description reads, "Together for the first time is the best of the Green Lantern in a single disc. Each Green Lantern has been chosen by the Guardians of the Universe, and wields a power ring that can generate a variety of effects, sustained purely by the ring wearer's strength of will; the greater the user's willpower, the more effective the ring. The ring can be used for antigravity, space travel, flight, unleashing torrents of energy, translating alien dialects, and creation of green objects (constructs) of any shape. Across the years, the ring has been shown capable of accomplishing anything within the imagination of the ring bearer."

The site claims that the episodes making up the disc are "In Brightest Day" (Superman: TAS); "In Blackest Night, Part 1" and "In Blackest Night, Part 2" (Justice League); "Ring Toss" (The Batman); and "The Eyes of Despero!" (Batman: The Brave and the Bold).

Heck yea! Being the GL geek that I am, I am so going to pick this up! I do think that what it is missing is: the Green Loontern (mentioned above), and that episode from Justice League Unlimited, I forget the name, but it features the GL Corps vs Amazo.

I don't know if I'm going to buy this, I already own most of these on DVD already...Man, I hate compilations like this.

I wish WHV would release a Static Shock DVD that collected the episodes guest starring John Stewart, Batman, Superman, and The Justice League. That would really complete my DCAU collection.

LOL, Desperate or what? This is what they should have done BEFORE the movie flopped massively not after! I guess it's the only way they can generate enough interest for the kids that ignored the cinema release to want to visit the live action film on Home Video since the adult audience simply didn't give a sh*t!

Boy to I hate compilation DVD's!

I was hoping they would put some episodes from the 1966 GL animated series. I'm sure they are not very good, but I would love to see some. I don't think they have ever been on video, have they?

"In Brightest Day" (Superman: TAS) was terrible .. it was Kyle Rayner with Hal's story. They even have him have a fight in a air force base and you see the name "Hal Jordon" on one of the planes.

superman being involved in him getting the ring... what?

@Nephillim - Hey whatever! Far as I'm concerned they might as well have made a feature length Ben10 movie instead, same thing! Either way the appeal of a guy that makes coloured shapes to save the day is appealing to kids and fanboys only! What they are pushing is an easy 'linked-sale' as we call it in retail. The episodes combined on that DVD are light enough for young children, with the new Bruce Timm series due around the the same time and two feature animated films also available, they'll structure a good pitch aimed at kids to help boost a product that showed little demand in the 'general audience' bracket they originally pitched it at.

And NOTE - no Blu Ray version either, why? Because it's a linked save item, they never make a Blu ray versions because it has to cost virtually zip to make, all the features are pooled from back-catalogue to create a high margin product. They wouldn't spend another worthwhile cent on GL right now because its one hell of a costly flop ($263 mill loss). Making a DVD aint nothing, they're cheap as hell to produce.

"Ring Toss"??? That was a great BATMAN episode from what is IMHO the best BATMAN animated series ever, but GL was hardly the highlight of it so i have no [frick]ing clue why it's part of "The Best of GL DVD". I guess it's there only because it featured Hal and not John.

Captain Amerifrog: I was also looking for that Duck Dodgers episode on this DVD. Funny stuff!

CaptainPresley: They used to show those 1960's GL episodes on Boomerang. Look under "Green Lantern 1967" on YouTube, and there are several episodes posted. The stories are a little simplistic, but they do have a good mix of characters and it has a real Silver Age feel to it. Check 'em out, and I hope you enjoy them! There was an hour-long series that ran around this time that featured Superman and Aquaman. Other heroes who got stories in this series included Hawkman, the Teen Titans, and the Justice League. There are one or two more, and I just can't think of them right now.

Marvel72: We agree on a lot of things here, but I must respectfully disagree with you about the Brave and the Bold. I love it, because it reminds me of the cartoons I grew up watching, and it's just a lot of fun.

comicb00kguy- Yeah, B:B&B does have a very oldy, nostalgicky retro vibe to it which i'm not a fan of. So if it's something you've always liked, i wouldn't be surprised how much you do enjoy that series. I've always been a bigger fan of more dynamic styles of animations like japanimation and such, which is why i'll always prefer The Batman over any other series to date. But i do enjoy how they incorporate a LOT from the DCU into Brave and the Bold. That's definitely it's strong point in my eyes.

@ comicbOOkguy & @ victorhugo

yeah fairplay to you guys if you enjoy it,i just think batman cartoons should be dark & gritty.

i liked the starro storyline & the black adam episode but i do find it hard to get through a whole episode.

maybe i'm to old for it.

Bruce Timm is turning into the George Lucas of the animated universe. Stop recycling these episodes, Bruce. If you love them as much as us fans then make some more!

(Wait, maybe the new GL series is a way to bring the animated Justice League back in a new form...thank you, thank you, thank you, Bruce Timm!)

Also, I'm a little disappointed that they couldn't include anything from the 70's or 80's.

Chill out fanboys, clearly this DVD release isn't aimed at our audience, it's for the younglings. And with that in mind I hope a lot of parents buy it so their kids will be introduced to the characters that we already know & love.

@CaptainPresley: Those old GL episodes were released on DVD called 'DC Super Heroes: The Filmation Adventures' a few years back, along with The Flash, The Atom, Hawkman, Teen Titans, and The Justice League of America cartoons. You can buy them on Amazon.com, here's the link:
