After selling over 1,000,000 copies worldwide, the Grammy-nominated Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 has been certified Platinum by the R.I.A.A. The critically acclaimed compilation album spent two weeks following its release as the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and also spent time as the No.1 album on iTunes in over 60 territories. The album is currently available in a vinyl edition, as a CD, or as a digital download.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was considered a surprise hit by many and eventually climbed its way up the ladder to become the highest grossing CBM of the year with a total gross of over $773 million worldwide. The James Gunn-directed film, which starred Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, is due for a sequel May 5, 2017.

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team--the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits--Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand--with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

A critically lauded movie that also introduced many youngsters to good, classic music. Double win for Gunn.

I didn't even like the soundtrack. All the songs were cheesy & sh*t.

There was some great music in the 80's, but GOTG only used cheesy pop music.

Imagine making a film in 30 years & filling it with One Direction, Justin Bieber & Taylor Swift songs.

There's a difference between soundtrack and score.

But I suppose that's Gunn for ya. he puts an eclectic mix of strange tunes in all his films & it does suit his visual style tbh.

This soundtrack is like a mix tape my dad would listen to, which is fine, but going platinum on something like this does seem a little ridiculous. But I guess the general public loving Guardians is good for the Comic Book Movie world, more $$$ to pump back into the beast.

Cheesy pop music? That's one of the funniest things I have read on here for a long time. Most of the music was from the 70's, not the 80's, so it is clear that someone doesn't know much about music from that time period.

There's always a pattern on CBM.com. The more praise and awards a Marvel Studios film gets the more trolls come out to play. The bigger you are the more enemies you have I suppose.
