James Gunn Touches On Recent GOTG Casting Rumors; Gives His Take On Marvel

The Super director briefly took to Twitter to answer some questions from fans, and although he wouldn't get into his work on Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy in any detail, he did drop a couple of interesting tidbits..

There's not really too much here, but I thought you guys might be interested in what Gunn had to say (or not say as the case may be) about Guardians Of The Galaxy. Like I said, he refuses to give anything away but he does suggest that we probably shouldn't put so much stock in some recent casting rumors. "I can't answer all of these GOTG questions right now", said Gunn after a barrage of them. "We have lots of surprises in store for you guys but can't let them out for a while. That said, don't believe everything that you read!" Of course this doesn't mean that any or all casting rumors definitely aren't true, as I'm sure anyone associated with Marvel would say that regardless, but obviously it's best not to just assume they're all on the level either. After this I myself decided to bypass any direct GOTG related questions and asked him if he'd be interested in working with Marvel again on another movie. "Without a doubt", he replied. "So far, working with Marvel has been the highlight of my working life. I love these guys." So, a GOTG sequel? Another character(s) perhaps? Who would you like to see Gunn take aim at (sorry!) next? Read all of the questions for yourselves at the link below.

I'm guessing he's talking about the el-mayimbe reported casting choice. Does that guy have something against marvel besides trying to be reporter I mean the dudes almost waging a jihad against marvel. What happened did Kevin Feige turn his advance down or Is he just a bad ass?

Iron Man has to be in it. So far, Marvel has been considering B-C List Actors for this movie that will likely have a $250 mil budget. Some may argue that Thor was cast with a few nobodys, but it also had A list stars like Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Natalie Portman. Marvel will learn one way or another and this movie is the one to teach Marvel that they need to make movies that people want to see.

I'm thinking it'll be more like the Red Skull will be in the movie. I doubt rdj will be in it. They were saying hes pushing for a movie at most every other year from now on. Maybe he will just meet up with them at the end of the movie to segue into Avengers 2!

Personally I've disagreed with a lot of marvel casting when they announce the names, but have learned that marvel knows what they are doing. with That said I for one am tired of all the casting rummers.

For Drax cast an Unknown Like Hemsworth

Lets be honest it's not shakespeare, it's GOTG

Screw Momoas greedy ass

Iron Man doesn't need to be in it. Not every movie in their shared universe needs to have a connection to The Avengers or SHIELD.

@DarthMaul
One more thing for every one who says wrestlers arnt actors neither are waiters (Chris Hemsworth), busboys (Ryan Gosling), personal trainers (Hugh Jackman), Mascots (Brad Pitt), Bodybuilders (Sean Connery & Arnold Schwarzenegger) and more where told they ARE NOT ACTORS, but you all jump on their band wagons now that they are stars.

Step out of your Ignorance, Wrestlers can act, some are better than most, just like every one ells. Not every actor can do shakespeare

@DarthMaul Stand your ground all you want, but your not on TV, they are, they have millions of fans, you dont, if they cant act then some one like you needs to tell all the people of the world they entertain. Stand your ground, just like everyone who said that Sean Connery would make a terabl Bond bc he was a bodybuilder, The Rock bc he's a wrestler, Arnold, Brad Pitt, and many more.

If you new any thing you would know that most actors have Jobs before they make it big, and there are always people like you who tell them they cant act. All you did was name 2 wrestlers who couldnt act, but everyone here can name dozens of actors who cant act

Please, For the love of Galactus, dont put Iron Man in the movie. Convince people to watch the movie with a good market campaign and putting "From the studio that brought you The Avengers" in every teaser trailer, poster and tv spot. And finally, stick with DnA guardians, noreason to use that crappy Bendis new series, please.

@WEJallen, thinking like that is the reason why, at one point, most comic book movies were shit. statements like that are the reason why Shcumaker got away with casting a shitty wrestler as Bane and created those atrocious Batman movies. if the fans aren't gonna respect and stick for the source material, why would the directors, screenwriters or producers?

on the other hand, when you have a filmmaker like Nolan, Whedon or Singer who treat their CBM's with the same respect as their indie dramas. or in your words treat them like Shakespeare, you end up with CBM's that are both critical and financial sucesses.

so tell me, which did you prefer? Shchumacher's Batman where he chose a wrestler to play Bane? or Nolan's Batman, where he chose a stage actor trained for Shakespeare and Chekhov to portray Bane?
WEJAlen20
WEJAlen20 - 3/2/2013, 11:28 AM
@Shamo Our points arnt that different, except you use the word shit a lot more than I do. If a wrestler can act he can act, if a gardner can act he can act, give the role to the best person who walks in the room, no matter if he's a garbage man, football player, or doctor if they can act they can act.

There are a lot of wrestlers who do know Shakespeare Dwayne Johnson, Chris Jericho, Diamond Dallas Page, Shad Gaspard, The Big Show all studied or performed shakespearean acting.

It's hard to believe but all of those guys studied acting with Howard Fine, who is one of the best acting acting coaches in the world, and all of them have said in interviews that they studied shakespeare to get out there comfort zone. Google it if you want to read the interview

WEJAlen20 - 3/2/2013, 11:34 AM
I'm saying John Cena would make a bad Drax bc he cant act, just like Channing Tatum would make a bad Captain America

Batista might make a good Drax, but I think they should go with an Unknown, wrestler or Any one

Please let the powers that be bring ADAM WARLOCK to the BIG SCREEN! Throw in MAGNUS and I might Harlem Shake in the middle of the theater! I have to admit that the MAGNUS afro that Jim Starlin drew always made me giggle. That afro fills me with memories of the 1970's Blaxploitation films. Can you imagine Magnus voice cast as a 70's gangster? That would probably send chills up and down Andrea Romano's spin, lol!

shamo - 3/2/2013, 1:40 PM
@Wej, just to set the record straight. i'm not saying Wrestlers in general cannot act. nor do i disagree with your point on just because someones not a full time actor doesn't mean that they can't act.

what me, and i assume other people, have a problem with, is not the fact that Bautista is a Wrestler who acts but the fact that Bautista "cannot" act.

Bautista isn't being considered for his acting abillities, he's being considered "despite" his acting abillities due to his physical appeareance and that is not the way to cast a character. thats all i'm trying to say.
shamo
shamo - 3/2/2013, 2:33 PM
i can't say since i don't know. but i can say this: i've seen him act b4 and he's simply not good. so unless he's made an astonishing amount of progression since House of the Rising Sun which came out 2 years ago, he is nowhere near the level needed to portray Drax.

and chances are, if he killed the screentest like that then he'd of already been cast since money wouldn't of be an issue for him. so the smart bet is, he's being consdiered to his physique and wrestling fanbase.
