2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with the promise that "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return." Three years on, and it still hasn't happened; now, short of a huge surprise, Chris Pratt's Peter Quill isn't set to appear in December's Avengers: Doomsday.
Pratt has had a great run in the MCU, appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder, and the aforementioned Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Talking on the Bingeworthy podcast, the actor addressed his Star-Lord future, and it sounds like plans are finally taking shape for the hero.
"I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D'Esposito], and there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise," Pratt teased.
"So yeah, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting," he continued, "but I’m not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere."
It's been widely theorised that Star-Lord will have a key role in next December's Avengers: Secret Wars, so even if Pratt sits out Doomsday, we may see him back in the spotlight soon.
Earlier this year, Pratt said, "I’m happy to do anything they want me to do and will. And also, I personally have a really strong vision of what I would want him to do. And I think it’s f***ing great. I think that, you know, I’m down to contribute any way I can to them setting up the next 10 years of storytelling, you know? And also, I have a pretty strong idea of how I think I could contribute to that."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with Peter Quill returning to Earth. He reunited with his grandfather before the post-credits scene wrapped up with a title card promising us that the Legendary Star-Lord would return.
As for the Guardians themselves, the team is now comprised of Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, Phyla, and Blurp. What the future holds in store for them isn't clear, but with Star-Lord back on Earth, fans have been eagerly awaiting his return.
We'd previously heard that Marvel Studios was considering a movie or TV series titled The Legendary Star-Lord. That's seemingly been put on hold, but there's clearly plenty more to come from this character moving forward.
