New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Image Features Djimon Hounsou As Korath the Pursuer

"When we saw how he looked in the makeup, with the blue eyes and the metal coming out of the head, we were blown away," says Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn of actor Djimon Hounsou's role as Korath the Pursuer. "Besides, Djimon brings a humanness to the part, which was needed," Gunn added. Hounsou also described his character's fighting style in the film as "a martial arts mixture of wrestling and boxing." Anyhow, USA Today has released a new look at Korath the Pursuer as he's grasping the mysterious Infinity Gem Orb in the upcoming Marvel film.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014.

What sort of role does Djimon have in this? I hope he's in more than just the orb scene

ezio619 - 6/15/2014, 11:42 AM
apparently out of the three main villains of the film in Ronan, Nebula and Korath, Korath is the one that doesnt have much screentime in the film..also in this, instead of being a Kree, he is a Sakaaran Bounty Hunter..interesting..i dont mind it though

Is "humanness" a word?

I think that they are trying to make the Kree feel more alien-like by giving them all different skin-colors. That, or they blew their budget for body-paint on Gamora.

i think when he was younger , eh would have been a really good black panther,i think he is too old now for the character ,plus he is in this,i think hes 50 so he could have been a good T Chaka, T Challa father

Mcnyagano-i know u thought that Del Toro was hamming it up a little as The Collector which is actually how he should be..the collector is a weird effing dude and plus Gunn said he wrote him as an Outer Space Liberace

@McNya

I know this is a weird question but... how cool is the closing credits of GOTG?

The Pursuer.

The Accuser.

The Collector.

I'm sensing a pattern here with these names.

@SauronsBANE1

The Pursuer pursues.

The Accuser accuses.

The Collector collects.

Gotta love Stan Lee's names.

Yet another great actor gets shafted in a minor role.
ezio619
ezio619 - 6/15/2014, 12:24 PM
LensmanMatt-he wanted to be a part of it and he knew it would be a minor role, also Glenn Close and John C Reilly have minor roles too and are there to estabilish the Nova Corp mainly but i think its interesting That Glenn Close who is a very respected actress would be up for a minor role in a space adventure film such as this..its interesting
SauronsBANE
SauronsBANE - 6/15/2014, 12:24 PM
Haha Stan Lee sounds like a pretty straightforward kinda guy. As long as those characters do what they're name says they do, I don't mind lol.

So...do they get those names at birth, and just have to live up to whatever verb they get stuck with? Or do they just accuse, pursue, and collect so much, that it becomes their nickname? I kinda hope it's the first option...that'd be hilarious.
ezio619
ezio619 - 6/15/2014, 12:27 PM
JohnCarter-exactly, thats what i have heard too hence me not believing that whole marvel didnt let edgar wright make the film he wanted to make and they didnt let him put his style on it cause as i have said, there is a lot of Favreau In Iron man, there is Branagh in Thor especially with the family drama, there is Johnston in Cap 1 with it being a stylized WW2 film akin to the Rocketeer which he directed aswell, in terms of character interactions and dialogue, Avengers is VERY whedon, IM3 has Shane black all over it and guardians seems to be Very James Gunn aswell
ezio619
ezio619 - 6/15/2014, 12:30 PM
suaronsbane-i think the collector is just something that he is known as..his real name is Taneleer Tivan..i think in Kree society its like thier rank so Ronan is the Accuser, he passes judgement on people and Korath was good at tracking enemies i think but in this apparently he is not Kree but a Sakaaran Bounty hunter and The Pursuer seems to be a name he has become known as due to him pursuing the target till the job done
SauronsBANE
SauronsBANE - 6/15/2014, 12:36 PM
@ezio619, I gotcha. I was mostly joking with all that before haha, but I appreciate the info on him and the others! The funny names won't stop me from watching this at the midnight premiere. I seriously can't wait for this movie.
ezio619
ezio619 - 6/15/2014, 12:37 PM
Sauronsbane-i cant wait either, and yeah actually they kinda sound goofy but in a cool goofy way to me..haha
SauronsBANE
SauronsBANE - 6/15/2014, 12:41 PM
Yep I hear you! They're definitely goofy, but they really fit with the tone they're obviously going for with GotG.
ezio619
ezio619 - 6/15/2014, 12:42 PM
Suaronsbane1-yeah and this is pretty much the tone of the 2008 abnett and lanning run that this film is inspired from, that run is VERY comedic but mixes well with its drama and character moments
ezio619
ezio619 - 6/15/2014, 12:44 PM
Scorpion-yeah i hope so,i hope this film is good and going by some early revies..it seems to be really good-great so fingers crossed and i hope people embrace it too,i want more lesser known characters cause alot of the time lesser known characters can be the coolest
