John Krasinski has announced the start of production on A Quiet Place: Day One, Paramount's upcoming spin-off prequel of their blockbuster A Quiet Place series.

Michael Sarnoski (Pig) will helm the feature, utilizing a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeff Nichols (MudLoving). The film's story is based on an original idea from Krasinski, who will serve as a producer on the project, alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller.

The upcoming film will star Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong'o (Black Panther; Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) in the lead role, with Joseph Quinn (Game of ThronesStranger Things) and Alex Wolff (Pig; Old) appearing in supporting parts. No further cast details have been provided, but we imagine there will be surprises.

A Quiet Place: Day One hits theaters on March 8, 2024.

Filming has commenced in London, so we'll keep an eye out for set photos, but in the meantime, check out a few behind-the-scenes snapshots below:

So stoked. Part of me wishes that the first one remained a part of the Cloverfield universe like it was originally written for. Both film series are great though 🙌🏻 👽

@ImBatman4realz - I'm a huge Cloverfield nerd! I'm extremely excited to see what they do with the direct sequel that's in production.

I also loved A Quiet Place. Still haven't watched the sequel, but I need to. I'm excited for this new one as well.

@ImBatman4realz - for sure would have been a better choice than the movie that killed the franchise

@CorndogBurglar - the sequel was great... not as good as the original but told from a different perspective and shows more than just the main family and the troubles they went through.. it expands the mythos and i liked it alot... but thats just me

@MotherGooseUPus - Thats good! It doesn't have to be as good as The original, as long as it's still entertaining, you know? It looks like with this new sequel we're going to see the beginning. Almost like the beginning of a zombie movie, which is always the coolest parts to those movies in my opinion.

@CorndogBurglar - agreed. or from what i heard it may be told from another family's perspective from the beginning but idk... the sequel to A Quiet Place...... mild spoilers..... does show day one from the main families perspective but then kicks into gear after that and starts with after the events of the first

@MotherGooseUPus - Yeah I remember seeing clips of that. I'll check it out this week. I really have no reason for not watching it yet, I loved the first one.

@CorndogBurglar - what others have said: Part II is awesome and entertaining. Though not as good as the first movie it is still a great film. This one is a prequel, and they are also working on a Part III as well. Supposed to be some video game “set in the same universe” comin’ along too

Pig was fantastic and Lupita Nyong'o is a stellar actor so I’m stoked for this!

Why another prequel? Move the story forward! The second movie already kind of showed how the start went.

@EZBeast - agreed. And the second also perfect set up another sequel. Think they're also working on a Part 3 though

Part of me is fundamentally against the idea of prequels. I understand they create space for new stories to be told, but it's hard for me to get interested in prequels when I already have a basic idea of how the story is going to proceed. A Quiet Place is a great movie, and the sequel is equally as strong. I have no doubt this will be a good film, but I don't see WHY it's necessary. I really just want more of what we already have instead of creating space to tell a story that came before that.

@AvisQuinn - with A Quiet Place I don't mind. The stories are about the humans living in that world. And we don't know what the stories of these folks are gonna be. Only that it will involve them being silent

@AvisQuinn - a movie explaining/detailing the alien invasion, I anticipate as being cool
